#BDS_Fail: Citibank, American Express pull support from Roger Waters concert tour

Both Citibank and American Express have withdrawn their support for former Deep Purple lead guitarist Roger Waters' concert tour over Waters' support of the BDS movement.
Citibank announced Tuesday that it was not sponsoring the upcoming concert tour of Pink Floyd co-founder and Israel-boycott advocate Roger Waters, adding that the bank had “no plans to work with this artist in the future,” the Algemeiner reported.
The banking giant issued the denial in a letter responding to a shareholder concerned about its relationship with Waters, who was accused by the Anti-Defamation League in 2013 of having “absorbed classic anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.” The New York Post reported last week that American Express had refused to sponsor Waters’ North American 2017 tour, but that Citibank would be sponsoring it instead.
“I want to let you know that Citi is not a sponsor of Roger Waters’ upcoming tour,” a Citibank official said in the email. “Two weeks ago, Citi offered a limited time pre-sale of tickets for cardmembers for select shows, as we do for thousands of concerts by different artists every year. While advertised as the ‘official card’ for payment purposes, the pre-sale was in no way an endorsement of the artist’s personal views. The pre-sale has ended and we have no plans to work with this artist in the future.”
A number of artists who were planning to play in Israel last year said that they felt threatened by proponents of the Palestinian-led boycott campaign against Israel. Despite these threats, major artists such as Alicia Keys, The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, and Bon Jovi have performed in Israel in recent years. Typically, when entertainers announces plans to perform in the Jewish state, boycott supporters make public appeals and send private messages to try to pressure them to cancel the concert; if a particularly prominent artist is involved, they may receive an open letter from Waters.
Waters' recent performances have veered into anti-Semitic territory.

Pot calls kettle black

Above is the infamous tweet that has been branded (with some justification, although I have my doubts that Trump is sharp enough to have noticed) anti-Semitic. The New York Times reports that Hillary Clinton has blasted Donald Trump for his anti-Semitic tweet.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign said on Monday that an image posted by Donald J. Trump on Twitter over the weekend that showed a photo of Mrs. Clinton against a backdrop of $100 bills and a Star of David was “blatantly anti-Semitic.”
The post accused Mrs. Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, of being the “most corrupt candidate ever.” But critics seized on the episode as the latest example of a longtime pattern of racially charged remarks by Mr. Trump, saying the post was meant to exploit stereotypes against Jewish people.
No, I'm not excusing Trump, and yes, I think he needs to get the neo-Nazis out of his campaign. But Hillary Clinton accusing anyone else of being an anti-Semite is rich with irony (via American Thinker).
In his book American Evita, Christopher Anderson writes.
At a time when elements of the American Left embraced the Palestinian cause and condemned Israel, Hillary was telling friends that she was "sympathetic" to the terrorist organization and admired its flamboyant leader, Yasser Arafat. When Arafat made his famous appearance before the UN General Assembly in November 1974 wearing his revolutionary uniform and his holster on his hip, Bill "was outraged like everybody else," said a Yale Law School classmate. But not Hillary, who tried to convince Bill that Arafat was a "freedom fighter" trying to free his people from their Israeli "oppressors." (1)
Of course Hillary's feelings about the PLO and Israel are only one aspect of her character, often a person's true nature is more closely revealed in a more intimate setting. In an early showcase of Hillary's diplomatic skills Christopher Anderson relates an experience that she and her future husband had during a trip to Arkansas in 1973.
It was during this trip to his home state that Bill took Hillary to meet a politically well connected friend. When they drove up to the house, Bill and Hillary noticed that a menorah-the seven branched Hebrew candelabrum (not to be confused with the more common and subtler mezuzah)-has been affixed to the front door.

"My daddy was half Jewish," explained Bill's friend. "One day when he came to visit , my daddy placed the menorah on my door because he wanted me to be proud that we were part Jewish. And I wasn't about to say no to my daddy."

To his astonishment, as soon as Hillary saw the menorah, she refused to get out of the car. "Bill walked up to me and said that she was hot and tired, but later he explained the real reason." According to the friend and another eyewitness, Bill said, "I'm sorry, but Hillary's really tight with the people in the PLO in New York. They're friends of hers, and she just doesn't feel right about the menorah." (2)
The pot (Hillary Clinton) is calling the kettle (Donald Trump) black....

'Hollywood was a Jewish invention to take over the United States'

If you thought that the sort of boorish anti-Semitism that's in the title of this post went out of style in the 1940's, you were wrong. Hezbullah's al-Manar television (Lebanon) made the claim in the title of this post this week.

Let's go to the videotape.

Economist publishes anti-Semitic cartoon, ADL demands apology

The Economist published the anti-Semitic pictured above in its January 18 edition. What's the problem with it? Look closely, and if you still can't figure it out, here's the Commentator.
You don't have to be (clue) eagle eyed to spot it do you? At the centre-top of the Congressional emblem, above that eagle, is a Jewish Star of David. Now, this obviously plays to the theme, common among anti-Semites around the world, that the U.S. Congress is essentially a puppet of the Jewish people.
Obama is literally and figuratively chained back from properly reaching out to Iran by the Jews.
The Israeli flag has a Star of David in it, of course. But if the cartoonist, and the editorial team of The Economist that approved it, had wanted to emphasise Israel rather than the the broader global Jewish community, they could have easily had the cartoonist put in the image of the Israeli flag. No problem at all from a technical point of view.
That would still have been bigotry -- the notion that Israel runs American politics is an obvious form of neo-anti-Semitism.
But this is the old fashioned stuff. It's the kind of thing that appeared in The Protocols of Zion. It's the kind of thing the Nazis used. It's the kind of thing bigots -- including in the Western-funded Palestinian authority -- use all the time.
The Jews run the world: or at least its most powerful nation. That's the message The Economist conveys. Sometimes the term anti-Semitism is over-used. Sometimes it is under-used. This time there's no doubt at all what is going on.
The Commentator calls this 'shocking bigotry.' Bigotry, yes. Shocking, no. This has practically become standard fare for the Economist. And that's why the ADL's demand for an apology is meaningless. What's needed isn't an apology. It's a lobotomy.

PLO 'moderate' Hanan Ashrawi's group claims Jews use Christian blood for Passover

MIFTAH, a group whose Secretary General is none other than PLO National Council member Hanan Ashrawi, has published an article that claims that Jews use Christian blood for Passover.
Al-Zaru asks:

Does Obama in fact know the relationship, for example, between "Passover" and "Christian blood" ..?!
Or "Passover" and "Jewish blood rituals..?!
Much of the chatter and gossip about historical Jewish blood rituals in Europe are real and not fake as they claim; the Jews used the blood of Christians in the Jewish Passover ...
He then quotes a 2007 Haaretz article on a book by a Bar-Ilan University professor that bizarrely claimed that a few blood libels could have had a basis in fact, without noting that the same professor recanted those claims a year later.

The upshot is that a journal run by "moderate" Hanan Ashrawi is pushing the Passover blood libel, and you will be hard pressed to find a "moderate" Arab condemning this article. I couldn't.

Unfortunately, CNN won't think to ask her about this the next time they trot her out on TV.
Read the whole thing.

Folks, this is classic, classic anti-Semitism. Anyone who thinks these people are suddenly going to live in peace with Israelis when this is how they think is simply fooling himself.

Obama's buddy Mohammed Morsy to Senators: 'Jews control US media'

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsy, President Obama's best friend in the Middle East after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, told seven US Senators (John McCain (R-AZ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and Kirsten Gilibrand (D-NY)) last week that the American media is controlled by Jews.
But inside the meeting, the discussion over Morsy's 2010 remarks was much more heated than either side publicly acknowledged afterwards, according to Coons. Addressing the comments was the first item on the senators' agenda, and the discussion did not go well, he told The Cable in an interview.
"We tried to give President Morsy an opportunity, now that he is the president, to put his comments in a different context because he was claiming that he was taken out of context. On their face they seemed to be very offensive and inappropriate," Coons said. "It was a difficult conversation."
Morsy told the senators that the values of Islam teach respect for Christianity and Judaism, and he asserted repeatedly that he had no negative views about Judaism or the Jewish people, but then followed with a diatribe about Israel and Zionist actions against Palestinians, especially in Gaza.
Then Morsy crossed a line and made a comment that made the senators physically recoil in their chairs in shock, Coons said.
"He was attempting to explain himself ... then he said, ‘Well, I think we all know that the media in the United States has made a big deal of this and we know the media of the United States is controlled by certain forces and they don't view me favorably,'" Coons said.
The Cable asked Coons if Morsy specifically named the Jews as the forces that control the American media. Coons said all the senators believed the implication was obvious.
"He did not say [the Jews], but I watched as the other senators physically recoiled, as did I," he said. "I thought it was impossible to draw any other conclusion."
"The meeting then took a very sharply negative turn for some time. It really threatened to cause the entire meeting to come apart so that we could not continue," Coons said.
Multiple senators impressed upon Morsy that if he was saying the criticisms of his comments were due to the Jews in the media, that statement was potentially even more offensive than his original comments from 2010.
"[Morsi] did not say the Jewish community was making a big deal of this, but he said something [to the effect] that the only conclusion you could read was that he was implying it," Coons said. "The conversation got so heated that eventually Senator McCain said to the group, ‘OK, we've pressed him as hard as we can while being in the boundaries of diplomacy,'" Coons said. "We then went on to discuss a whole range of other topics."
Irony alert: In the US elections, the 'Jewish-controlled' American media was in the back pocket of Morsy's good friend Hussein Obama, who continues to shower Egypt with expensive gifts. So do the Jews control the media or does Obama control the Jews? And if Obama controls the Jews, why would the media they control be attacking poor Mohammed Morsy? Hmmm.

White House refuses to condemn Hagel's 'Jewish lobby' comments

I hope that the 70% of the 'Jewish lobby' that voted to reelect President Hussein Obama, and to have insinuations made about its lack of loyalty to the United States for the next four years, is pleased with itself.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney refused to criticize comments about “the Jewish lobby” made former Sen. Chuck Hagel, an adviser to President Obama and candidate for Defense Secretary.
“We’ve been through this before with Ambassador Rice where there is an effort to go after somebody,” Carney said. “Senator Hagel fought and bled for his country, he served his country well, and he was an excellent senator.”
Carney was being asked about a couple of statements by Hagel, such as the remark that “the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here” and the declaration “I’m a United States Senator, not an Israeli Senator.” Carney refused to comment on those remarks, even though the reporter suggested he might want to given Hagel’s role as an adviser to Obama, quite apart from his potential nomination to lead the Defense Department.
I hope all you card-carrying members of the 'Jewish lobby' are ready for four more years like this.

What could go wrong?

Anti-Semite: 'Romney had a fundraiser in Israel with a bunch of diamond merchants'

Cantor blasts Pelosi's anti-Semitic remarks

House majority leader Eric Cantor (R-Va) blasted anti-Semitic remarks made about Jewish Republicans by minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) in an interview over the weekend, calling them 'patronizing' and 'insulting.'
“It is both patronizing and deeply insulting for Nancy Pelosi to suggest any Jew is 'exploited' for their political beliefs or that support for Israel is somehow an 'excuse' for anything," Cantor (R-Va.) said in a statement.

During the TV interview, Pelosi agreed with the interviewer that Republican Jewish supporters are very politically active and that Jewish voters are intelligent enough to understand the situation.

"Well, that’s how they’re being exploited,” she said. “And they’re smart people. They follow these issues. But they have to know the facts. And the fact is that President Obama has been the strongest person in terms of sanctions on Iran, which is important to Israel.”

Pelosi also is facing criticism that she implied Obama as president has been to Israel "over and over again."

President Obama has not been to Israel since taking office. He did travel to the country during his 2008 presidential campaign and reportedly went twice as a senator.
Let me guess: No one can find any record of him having been here as a Senator. Just like Occidental and Columbia....

Iranian Vice President says Talmud instructs Jews to suck blood of non-Jewish infants

Iran's first Vice President, Mohammad Reza Rahimi, told a United Nations conference in Tehran on Tuesday that the Talmud instructs Jews to suck the blood of non-Jewish infants, and blamed the Talmud for the spread of drug addiction around the world.
Mr. Rahimi, second in line to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said the Talmud teaches to “destroy everyone who opposes the Jews.”

The “Zionists” are in firm control of the illegal drug trade, Mr. Rahimi said, asking foreign dignitaries to research his claims. “Zionists” is Iran’s ideological term for Jews who support the state of Israel.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will pay for anybody who can research and find one single Zionist who is an addict,” Mr. Rahmini said. “They do not exist. This is the proof of their involvement in drugs trade.”

What made his remarks even more striking is that Iran’s fight against illegal drugs is one of the few issues on which the Islamic republic can count on Western sympathy. Iran’s battle to stop the flow of drugs coming in from neighboring Afghanistan has often been mentioned as a potential field of cooperation during negotiations over the country’s nuclear program.

...

Mr. Rahimi, who spoke after Mr. De Leo, told stories of gynecologists’ killing black babies on the orders of the Zionists and claimed that the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 was started by Jews, adding that mysteriously no Jews died in that uprising.

He also said the Talmud teaches Jews to think they are a superior race. “They think God has created the world so that all other nations can serve them,” he said. Halfway through his speech, Mr. Rahimi said there was a difference between Jews who “honestly follow the prophet Moses” and the Zionists who are “the main elements of the international drugs trade.”
Read the whole thing.

The reports have described diplomats who heard the tirade as being 'shocked,' but the conference continued.

This sounds like the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages, thousands of Europeans died in the Black (Bubonic) plague. Almost no Jews died, which brought on accusations like Rahimi's. Today we know that the reason almost no Jews died was that the Jews were constantly washing their hands.

It will be interesting to see how many anti-Semitic comments this post draws, particularly from Muslims.

Jeremiah Wright on Derrick Bell's racial theories

I've stayed out of the Derrick Bell controversy until now, mostly because someone I know was taught by Bell at Harvard and claimed that what's being reported in the media is blown up. But too much of Barack Hussein Obama's anti-Semitic past was ignored four years ago. It cannot be ignored again.

At Big Hollywood, Joel Pollak (if he had been elected to Congress in 2010, who would be doing this now?) posts a sermon from Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, which discusses Bell's 'critical race theory.' That theory says that America was founded on racism and remains irredeemably racist. Let's see at where Jeremiah Wright took that theory while the future President of the United States sat in his church (and did not get up and walk out until 13 years later when he was a candidate for President) in 1995 (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).
Jesus is a perfect model for the best type of faith. Jesus had a faith that did not avoid the realities of race. Modern reasoning tries to avoid the issue of race and pretend that race doesn't really matter.

That is a lie. Race does matter. Race is a reality that one cannot ignore. America was founded on racism. America lives and breathers racism. In this country, racism is as natural as motherhood, apple pie and the fourth of July....

What this country is is about racism from day one. The moment you take your first breath as a black person in this country, you have four strikes against you. You cannot ignore race.

Consider the case of Derrick Bell. Some people would rather fire an "uppity" Black lawyer like him than hire one woman of color. If you don't believe me, send for the transcript from Phil Donahue. Race matters in this country. There is no reason to pretend it doesn't. It doesn't make sense to bury one's head in the sand. Some of us want a Holy Ghost that is blind and dumb, one that will give us tongues but will not give us truth.

Some of us want to run past this issue of race and pretend that race does not really matter. However, Jesus had a faith that did not avoid the reality of race. He kept bringing up the Samaritan issue, because race does matter. Every time Jesus said the word "Samaritan," while talking to Jewish lawyers, it was just like saying the word "nigger" to some Klansmen in America.
Wright compares the Jews of the Second Temple period (when Jesus lived) to Klansmen. How can any Jew - even the secular Jews who don't make Israel a priority - vote for someone who continued to attend this man's church for 13 years after a speech like this? How can any Jew - even the secular Jews who don't make Israel a priority - donate money to the campaign of someone who continued to attend this man's church for 13 years after a speech like this and then claimed that he 'had never heard Wright use anti-American or racist rhetoric from the pulpit'?

Read it all.

Leftist blasts use of 'Israel firster'

Leftist Spencer Ackerman blasts the use of the term 'Israel firsters' by fellow Leftist MJ Rosenberg (pictured with another friend) among others.
Some on the left have recently taken to using the term “Israel Firster” and similar rhetoric to suggest that some conservative American Jewish reporters, pundits, and policymakers are more concerned with the interests of the Jewish state than those of the United States. Last week, for example, Salon’s Glenn Greenwald asked Atlantic writer Jeffrey Goldberg about any loyalty oaths to Israel Goldberg took when he served in the IDF during the early 1990s. (On Tuesday, writer Max Blumenthal used a gross phrase to describe Goldberg: “former Israeli prison guard.”) The obvious implication is that Goldberg’s true loyalty is to Israel, not the United States. For months, M.J. Rosenberg of Media Matters, the progressive media watchdog group, has been throwing around the term “Israel Firster” to describe conservatives he disagrees with. One recent Tweet singled out my friend Eli Lake, a reporter for Newsweek: “Lake supports #Israel line 100% of the time, always Israel first over U.S.” That’s quite mild compared to some of the others.

“Israel Firster” has a nasty anti-Semitic pedigree, one that many Jews will intuitively understand without knowing its specific history. It turns out white supremacist Willis Carto was reportedly the first to use it, and David Duke popularized it through his propaganda network. And yet Rosenberg and others actually claim they’re using it to stimulate “debate,” rather than effectively mirroring the tactics of some of the people they criticize.

Throughout my career, I’ve been associated with the Jewish left—I was to the left of the New Republic staff when I worked there, moved on to Talking Points Memo, hosted my blog at Firedoglake for years, and so on. I’ve criticized the American Jewish right’s myopic, destructive, tribal conception of what it means to love Israel. But it doesn’t deserve to have its Americanness and patriotism questioned. By all means, get into it with people who interpret every disagreement Washington has with Tel Aviv as hostility to the Jewish state. But if you can’t do it without sounding like Pat Buchanan, who has nothing but antipathy and contempt for Jews, then you’ve lost the debate.

This is tiresome to point out. Many of the writers who are fond of the Israel Firster smear are—appropriately—very good at hearing and analyzing dog-whistles when they’re used to dehumanize Arabs and Muslims. I can’t read anyone’s mind or judge anyone’s intention, but by the sound of it these writers are sending out comparable dog-whistles about Jews.
Read the whole thing.

Soccer Dad's Middle East Media Sampler

Here's Soccer Dad's Middle East Media Sampler for Friday, November 25.
1) The option play

There's some interesting reporting in Israel Halts Payments to Palestinian Authority, Adding to Fiscal Woes. First we have:
Another Israeli official said that when the decision was made to withhold payment around Nov. 1, there had been several troubling developments from Israel’s point of view. First, he said, President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority said nothing after a rocket from Gaza killed someone in southern Israel. Then Mr. Abbas seemed to praise the abduction of an Israeli soldier five years ago and said he would never recognize a Jewish state. Finally, the Palestinians joined Unesco — the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization — a move that Israel rejected as another unilateral step toward statehood.

“We wanted to make clear this could not be business as usual,” the official said. “The idea is to influence Palestinian decision-making.”
This is very clear. I would quibble only that the charges against the Palestinian Authority are presented as the view of an Israeli official. All of this information is freely available and could have been reported in the reporter's own words; instead it is presented as an Israeli view. Then we have:
The transfer of the more than $100 million a month is not, in theory, optional. It is mandated by the 1994 portion of the Oslo agreement. The money is made up of customs duties that Israel collects for Palestinian orders arriving here through Israeli ports, value-added taxes on major Palestinian purchases of Israeli goods and excise taxes on Israeli fuel bought by the Palestinians.

But the Israelis argue that by approaching the United Nations and engaging with Hamas, the Palestinian Authority is breaking its end of the Oslo accords, freeing Israel to do the same.
Note how the transfer of funds is presented as being an obligation of Israel's In the previous paragraphs Palestinian actions that violate the spirit if not the word of Oslo are only views of an Israeli official. And again the second paragraph is prefaced with "Israelis argue."

Israeli obligations are defined by Oslo; Palestinian obligations are the opinion of Israeli officials.

2) Just like Judas

Daoud Kuttab writes in Why the Palestinians might reject U.S. aid:
Criticism of the Abbas administration has appeared in social media platforms and newspaper editorials. Palestinian Authority leaders have been accused of being security agents for Israel. Palestinian-Israeli security cooperation has become taboo in Ramallah. Meanwhile, even though Palestinians have provided unprecedented cooperation on security, Israeli provocations continue. The Israelis have not stopped building settlements or expropriating Palestinian lands.
It would be a political misstep to accept funds earmarked for security services while schools and nurseries are not completed. Palestinians would see the aid as analogous to the 30 pieces of silver that were accepted by Judas Iscariot when he delivered Jesus — a position Abbas does not want to be in.
If an American Christian commentator had similarly used the Judas analogy - especially in circumstances involving Jews, would the Washington Post have published it? Aside from Kuttab's inaccuracies - which wouldn't concern most newspapers - the reference seems unusually inflammatory.
For the record, Kuttab is Christian.

Concern in Israel over #OWS (Occupy Wall Street) anti-Semitism

There's increasing concern in Israel over the anti-Semitism at Occupy Wall Street (Hat Tip: Memeorandum).
Israel's Yediot Ahronot newspaper called the anti-Semitic outbursts "hard to watch," and an Israeli commenter said, "It's just like pre-World War II Nazi Germany. You think blood libels can't happen in America?"

It has been pointed out by many media commentators that the openly anti-Semitic remain but a small portion of those participating in the Occupy Wall St. movement. However, others have noted that Nazi anti-Semitism started out as a fringe phenomenon in Germany before eventually defining that nation's domestic agenda in the 1940s.

More than the few Occupy Wall St. anti-Semites themselves, it is the lack of a clear and firm repudiation of their hateful rhetoric by the mainstream American media and political leaders that has a growing number of Israelis and Jews on edge.
Every time I report on this story, I get some nasty anti-Semitic tweets back. Ironically, some of them come from Arabs whose silence on Bashar Assad's Syria is deafening.

Anti-Semites at Mondoweiss blame 'right-wing Zionists' for Norwegian massacre

The anti-Semites at Mondoweiss have found a way to blame the Jooos 'right-wing Zionists' for Friday's mass murder in Norway.
An examination of Breivik's views, and his support for far-right European political movements, makes it clear that only by interrogating the nexus of Islamophobia and right-wing Zionism can one understand the political beliefs behind the terrorist attack.

Breivik is apparently an avid fan of U.S.-based anti-Muslim activists such as Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and Daniel Pipes, and has repeatedly professed his ardent support for Israel. Breivik's political ideology is illuminated by looking at comments he posted to the right-wing site document.no, which author and journalist Doug Sanders put up.
Amman-based blogger Alex Kane then goes on to give a list of examples of Breivik's ideology, which included a total of two mentions of Israel, one of which described the ideology of the 'Vienna school of thought' which clearly was not Breivik's invention. The other comment said
We must therefore make sure to influence other cultural conservatives to come to our anti-rasistiske/pro-homser/pro-Israel line. When they reach this line, one can take it to the next level...(page 41)
How Jooos 'right-wing Zionists' are responsible for the fact that a Norwegian bigot wants to adopt a pro-Israel line is not clear to me. I wonder if Kane would be willing to accept responsibility for the fact that Hamas and Hezbullah (and many other Islamist organizations) have set finishing the work of the Nazis (God forbid) as one of their goals? If not, why should we take responsibility for Breivik?

Oops - I forgot - saying that Hamas and Hezbullah wish to exterminate Jews makes me anti-Muslim Islamophobic in Kane's book.

Kane goes on to link 'anti-Muslim activists' with 'right-wing Zionists' as if the two are one and the same. It's one long piece of guilt by association. In Kane's book, Breivik admires the English Defense League and Geert Wilders and they both admire Israel and therefore they must all be behind Breivik's actions. And you must be anti-Muslim in Kane's book if you believe that Islam is attacking Judaism and Christianity in a 'clash of civilizations, and you are surely anti-Muslim if you opposed to the construction of the Ground Zero Mosque on the site of the World Trade Center - after all, you could not have just criticized it as being in poor taste.

Kane goes on to slander Dan Pipes some more, along with Dennis Ross and Martin Kramer. He's got it all figured out.

And why is Mondoweiss publishing this kind of scurrilous attack on the Jewish people? Because he's an anti-Zionist anti-Semite. Proof once again that we are our own worst enemies.

Beck's not an anti-Semite, he's anti-Liberal

This has got to be a first. Moshe Feiglin and l'havdil elef alfei havdalot (that's a way of saying I'd rather not mention them in the same sentence), the despicable MJ Rosenberg, both believe that Glenn Beck is an anti-Semite. Feiglin doesn't call Beck an anti-Semite, but that's the implication of saying that Beck believes in 'replacement theology.' Here's Feiglin.
I must admit that when a friendly non-Jew starts to quote the Bible, I get a bit nervous. It is not just the long history of anti-Semitism that has developed a genetic mutation in the noses of Jews, giving them great sensitivity to anything that smells of Christianity - but also my own personal experience with avowed lovers of Israel and the settlers who took great pains to mask their Christian motives.

As Glenn Beck is not in the process of conversion to Judaism, it is impossible to understand his quote from the Scroll of Ruth as meaning, "I am joining you." Apparently, the real meaning of his words is "I am replacing you."

A quick study of Glenn Beck's speeches before non-Israeli audiences and a simple internet search of his biography show that he is a believing Mormon who is motivated by a deep religious consciousness. In a live broadcast from the Temple Mount, Beck theatrically shows his audience how in that very place, Jesus turned over the tables of the Jewish money-changers who served the pilgrims to the Temple. He forgot to mention that with this act, that man created one of the most blatantly anti-Semitic Christian legends that lives on to this very day.

The problem is not Glenn Beck's beliefs. Beck is a good person who believes in what he is doing. The problem is that the most loyal Jewish public is giving him its support without thoroughly checking his message. They are unwittingly abetting a very gentle and heartwarming type of modern crusade. From a religious point of view, there is no difference between the Western Wall and the Southern Wall, where Beck's event is planned. They are both walls of the Mount of G-d's House. Would we allow a group of Christians to spread its message at the Western Wall? [No, of course not. But is Beck planning to spread a message of Christianity there? Not as far as I know. CiJ]

As long as Glenn Beck and his friends support Israel from the outside, understanding that your nation is your nation and my nation is my nation; that your god is your god and my G-d is my G-d, all is well and good and it is important to cooperate with them. But when it turns out that the agenda is actually replacement theology; a theology that aims to bring waves of Christian aliyah here and to use the Jewish renaissance in Israel as a springboard to a Christian renaissance – I cannot lend it the legitimacy of Manhigut Yehudit. [Beck has never said anything about living here or encouraging Christians to live here that I have heard. CiJ].

Glenn Beck speaks a lot about our obligation to tell the truth, so let us do just that: The Temple Mount is the home of the Holy Temple of the Jews – exclusively. All the non-Jews who understand that are invited to come to the Temple Mount (in the area where they are permitted according to Jewish law) to pray to the Master of the Universe, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Esau and Ishmael have their own holy places. Please honor our exclusive sovereignty over Jerusalem, including our spiritual sovereignty, just as we respect your spiritual sovereignty in your lands.
Now don't get me wrong. I agree with Feiglin's interpretation of Judaism. I don't agree that Beck is doing what Feiglin thinks he's doing. I don't believe Beck's that sophisticated. And even if he were doing it, are Jews going to bite for it? (I know that I have a commenter who will be happy to answer that question for me...). Beck strikes me as someone who sincerely wants to help and doesn't quite know how to approach us in a way that we won't find to be an attempt at missionizing. Would Beck contest Feiglin's assertions about the Temple Mount? I doubt it.

For MJ Rosenberg, on the other hand, Beck is quite simple. He hates liberals and therefore he's an anti-Semite. After all, most Jews are liberal, including Rosenberg's favorite kapo, George Soros.
The particular Beck installment to which Goldberg alluded revealed as much about Beck's attitudes toward Jews as anything he has ever said publicly. He listed the nine people — an "intelligent minority" — who infected the 20th century with the view that the masses are "animals" who can be controlled through propaganda. According to Media Matters, Beck named AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, as well as:
  • Propagandist and ad man Edward Bernays, who revolutionized 20th century public relations.
  • Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, who was Bernays' uncle and influenced his method.
  • George Soros, who Beck claimed shared Freud and Bernays' philosophy that people are "animals" who can be "experimented with."
  • Cass Sunstein, who Beck insisted "is Edward Bernays" and has called "the most dangerous man in America."
  • Former SEIU president Andy Stern, who Beck said is part of a self-proclaimed "intelligent minority" of powerful men trying to manipulate the "bewildered herd" of America.
  • Walter Lippman, a prominent columnist of the mid-20th century, who Beck accused of viewing government "as a way to control people."
  • Frances Fox Piven, professor at CUNY, who Beck accused of "sowing the seeds" of revolution.
  • Ed Rendell, the governor of Pennsylvania, who Beck said thinks of himself as "one of the elites that are there to guide the herd."
Of the nine, Trumka is the only non-Jew; the other eight are Jews. Other than their ethnic backgrounds, the Beck 8 have little in common. Ed Rendell and Sigmund Freud? Andy Stern and Walter Lippmann?

How can anyone, other than someone with a real hang-up about Jews, produce a list of the people who epitomize the "era of the big lie" and come up with this list of American Jewish writers, college professors, labor leaders and a governor of Pennsylvania! I mean, think of the some of the 20th century's monstrously criminal liars...
They also just all happen to be liberals or the forebears of 21st century liberal political thought. Maybe that's why Beck went after them?

So what does Beck himself have to say (Hat Tip: Israellycool).
In an interview with Israel Hayom, Beck says that he can't understand how a nation still facing the danger of extermination, this time at the hands of Iran, does not receive sympathetic and encouraging coverage in the world media.

"Someone has to speak the truth," Beck said. "If someone can tell it better than I can, then by all means, please do. In the meantime, I'll do it myself. But today, if someone is horrified about someone else telling the truth, then Israel, and the entire lifestyle of the West is in trouble."

...

Is the rally's timing in August somehow related to the U.N. General Assembly vote on Palestinian independence which worries many in Israel and is planned for September?

"It worries me. September is a critical month for the state of Israel." So the timing is not coincidence.

"You can't always be reactionary. You can react but you should also be the one to lead, the one who gets the ball rolling. Why is everyone in Israel playing defense? Why do those who believe in freedom always have to be on the defensive? We have the high ground so why should be playing defense? Start paving the way." Beck said.

"August 24 could be just another event or the beginning of a movement in which people worldwide begin to understand that Jews won't be kicked around. If someone in the world has a problem with the Jews – then they got a problem with me, I'm a Jew in this regard."
Could that be the explanation to Beck's citation from the Book of Ruth that made Feiglin (and - okay me too) feel a little queasy?
"If we show fear and tell each other, listen it can't get any worse, then we will quickly find out that it can, much worse. The only difference is that this time, contrast to World War II, the U.S. isn't an industrial powerhouse just waiting for a reason to act. Back in those days America said lets show the world. It's no longer the case today. Today we don't have people like Winston Churchill either, people who said 'never give up, never surrender.' "

"So who will defend us? Who will be our messiah? China? The world is heading towards dark times, unless people begin to act."

Should I conclude from your words that the world is playing the same defensive game with the Iranian threat?

"I don’t want to talk about my country, but the West has buried its head in the sand – just as it did with Chamberlain on the eve of World War II." If someone came up to you everyday and told you 'I am going to kill your wife,' would you go back to your wife and say its nothing, or would you act?"

Do you think we are in a situation today in which Iran believes that an attack against it is not even an option?

"Four years ago, I told your prime minister, 'watch out – they're pulling one over on you.' I think they're pulling one over on my country, the U.S., as well. They aren't going to do anything. They will continue with this game, because nobody really wants to take real steps on this issue. Israel will have to attack by itself, because in the end the train cars will fill up again.

The big question that you need to ask yourselves is if you are going to climb aboard the train cars again - and you know how that ends – or are you going to say, excuse me, Israel has the right to live, Jews have the right to live, and the Holocaust is not going to happen again. I don't know when Iran's point of no return will come, but God help all of us if you or someone else is forced to attack there."

I was raised in Israel and taught to trust the American president almost like the Israeli prime minister. Is that still true?

"Even if Bush were still president today, I would give you a similar answer: look, I'm coming from a place in Poland where the king once granted the Jews a place to live. He said to them, here you will be protected. And they were protected – until one day he died, and then they weren't so safe anymore.

Don't trust anyone except yourselves. Israel needs to demand from the world the right to defend itself. Don't trust us or anyone else to protect you, because at some point, tomorrow or a thousand years from now, you will be let down, because everyone else has different interests than yours."
Every time I see Jewish criticism of a bible-quoting Christian, I look where it's coming from. If it's coming from the liberal left, I usually regard it with deep suspicion. I grew up on the liberal left, and I know how paranoid the Jewish liberal left is about anyone else quoting the bible. Including Jews. The Jewish liberal left is willing to set Israel up to be annihilated (God forbid) by the Arabs, but it's paranoid about any vestige of religion in American schools. It's funny how no one seemed to mind when Bill Clinton - then in his first term before he became a moderate - came to the Knesset and quoted his pastor and the bible. In fact, I recall one of the Haredi party representatives saying that he wished that the Prime Minister (Rabin at the time) would quote the bible as much as Clinton did in the Knesset! But let an American conservative come here and quote the bible and that raises all their hackles.

Beck seems to be saying all the right things to us. Is it too good to be true? Maybe. If Feiglin wants to confront him over the Temple Mount or anything else, I believe that he should. I'd love to see Feiglin confront Beck one-on-one on these issues. Of course, he'd have to get out of the car to do that.... But I don't believe Beck has the evil intent that Feiglin is ascribing to him. And I certainly don't believe he's an anti-Semite like Rosenberg claims.

United States demands Falk's resignation

The United States has joined the chorus demanding the resignation of UN Special Rapporteur to the Palestinians Territories Richard Falk, who published an anti-Semitic and anti-American cartoon on his blog last week. This is not the first time there has been controversy surrounding Falk, who is barred from entering Israel.
“I am deeply disturbed that once again UN Special Rapporteur Richard Falk has used his personal blog to publish abhorrent material,” [US envoy to the UN Joseph M. Torsella] said. “His shameful and outrageous behavior is an embarrassment to the United Nations. Someone who publishes such vicious images has no place in the UN system. Mr. Falk has yet again created a distasteful sideshow that distracts from the cause of human rights. We reiterate our call for him to step down immediately.”
But Falk continues to resist stepping down.
Meanwhile, UN Watch said Falk has adamantly refused to step down from his position despite repeated calls. UN Watch head Hillel Neuer said only UN rights chief Navi Pillay can remove Falk from office.

“The Geneva-centered UN human rights system reveres the high commissioner as the Catholic Church does the pope,” Neuer said. “If she reprimands Falk, the word will ripple throughout the system. He would be shamed within the diplomatic and human rights communities, and would eventually have to resign. I therefore trust that the US will register its protest not with the UN in abstract, but with Ms. Pillay’s office in particular.”
It's long past time for the US to stop lending credibility to the UN 'Human Rights Council.' What could go wrong?

America's allies in Libya: Anti-Jew and anti-Black

Once again, Pajamas Media's John Rosenthal looks at the darker side of a rebellion in the Arab World. And once again he finds not-so-subtle undertones of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, but this time, in Libya, he also finds racism against sub-Saharan Africans.

Read the whole thing and look at the pictures.

As in Egypt in February, the mainstream media is ignoring the issue.

IHH Head Bulent Yildirim: 'Don't let [Israelis] Come to Turkey for Vacation. Anyhow, Jews are Stingy; They don’t Spend a Penny”

There he goes again.
In addition to announcing the preparations for the second Gaza flotilla of over 15 vessels that will set sail from Europe in June, Yildirim said that the town of Alanya was center for tourism that the Israelis come for vacation with cruise ships. He said, “They (the Jews) don’t leave a penny to the shopkeepers here. They don’t spend money but they come here. On behalf of our shahids I ask this of you. Unless they apologize, pay compensation, and lift the embargo (on Gaza) and unless their prime minister and their ministers that committed this massacre are put in jail, do not allow them to vacation here. Anyhow, if you think we should keep quiet for the money, these people are stingy. They don’t spend a penny”.
This was apparently part of the same speech I cited in an earlier post.
