And finally, when will Europe finally wake up and realize that democratic Israel is part of the solution, not the problem?
At the end of the day, the terrorism faced by France - or Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, the U.K., etc. - is a kissing cousin of that confronted by Israel. Some European leaders go to great lengths to deny that obvious truth, seeking instead to draw distinctions that are, in fact, largely non-existent, or suggesting that Israel somehow "deserves" what it gets, while implying that Europe does not.
Let's get real.
The authors of 9/11 detested who and what America is. They didn't give a darn what political party was in power, because they attacked the Twin Towers when Clinton was president and again when Bush was in the Oval Office.
The same with Europe. The target is Europe's value system - its democracy, openness, freedom, and secularism.
And, yes, the same with Israel. The terrorists of Hamas (with which the Palestinian Authority made a pact), Iranian-backed Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and ISIS don't want Israel to exist, period. They're not interested in who's in power in Jerusalem or how to get to a two-state accord, but rather establishing their rule over the entire land.Read the whole thing.

Currently, the IWPS* team accompanies the trial and legal proceedings of five Palestinian boys from Hares, who are being tried before an Israeli military court for charges of attempted murder for throwing stones.

The narrative began on Thursday March 14, 2013, when a car crashed at around 6.30pm into the back of a truck on Road 5 in Salfit, injuring the driver and her three daughters.
The driver claimed that the accident was due to Palestinian youths throwing stones at her car. Aside from the two drivers and the three daughters, there were no other witnesses to the car accident nor had anybody witnessed children or youth throwing stones on that day.
By very early morning of Friday, masked Israeli soldiers with attack dogs had stormed the village of Hares and arrested ten boys, blindfolded and handcuffed.
In the next few days to the following week, several more adolescents were arrested, totalling 19 from the villages of Hares and Kife Hares (neighbouring villages) arrested in relation to the settler car accident, none of them with a previous history of stone-throwing.
After several violent interrogations, most were released except for five Hares boys – aged between 16 and 17 – who remain until today in Megiddo, an Israeli adult prison.
They are charged with 20 counts of attempted murder (one count per every alleged stone thrown at passing cars), a charge that carries a maximum punishment of twenty years to life imprisonment.

Reading the invitation to join the IWPS team, to have the privilege to accompany the process and to independently witness the case and judge for myself how the system of justice is applied in Israel and occupied Palestine, all these thoughts came to mind.
I do not know if I could accept the invitation (to enter the area would mean first crossing into the Israeli border – a place into which the Malaysian passport officially prohibits entry). But at the very least, for now, I have the power of sharing their narrative. – November 3, 2015.

But Highway 5 is a major highway that runs to the coast, and there must have been witnesses who saw what happened, and who would testify without anyone 'gathering' them. On what basis does this woman who has never even seen Israel accuse the IDF of fabricating witnesses?

The Prime Minister’s Office penned a letter to be given to the some 50 people on the boats expected to be towed into Ashdod, sarcastically welcoming them to Israel and saying that they apparently got lost.
“Perhaps you meant to set sail for a place not far from here – Syria,” the letter reads.
“There the Assad regime is slaughtering its own people every day with the support of the murderous regime in Iran.”
By contrast, the letter reads, Israel is dealing with a reality whereby terrorist organizations like Hamas try to attack innocent civilians.No, they're not lost. This is not about humanitarian aid. It's about Jew hatred, pure and simple.
“Against these efforts we are defending Israeli citizens in accordance to international law,” according to the letter.
The letter spelled out the number of trucks, and tons of aid and material that go into Gaza each day, saying it adds up to about 500,000 times the number of boats in the flotilla. At the same time, he said, Israel is not willing to allow the smuggling of arms to the Gaza Strip via the sea, which has been done repeatedly in the past.

Born Joseph Leonard Cohen, Yousef al-Khattab, 45 from New Jersey, converted from Judaism to Islam in his late 20s, when he was living in the Middle East. Upon his return to the US in 2007, he started the Revolution Muslim website.
In a post from 2009, Khattab posted a photo of the Chabad headquarters in Brooklyn with a link to map, noting the main temple was always full during prayer time, the Washington Post reported.
Khattab admitted posting articles encouraging readers to take unspecified action against Jewish leaders and publishing names and addresses of Jewish leaders and synagogues.
Posting a video on YouTube in 2009 of violence in the Gaza Strip, Khattab encouraged Muslims angered by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to "deal with them directly at their homes."

Renouncing the articles in court, he asked the judge to hold him responsible only "for what I say, not how people understood it," the Post reported.Yeah, he's a clown alright. A very dangerous one.
In an interview with NPR, Khattab admitted that his actions were "stupid" and "wrong."
"They interpreted me giving the message of Islam as being a threat to the Jewish community, which it wasn't," Khattab told NPR, but could not explain how providing addresses and pictures of Jewish leaders after an anti-Semitic post could be misinterpreted.
Khattab claimed in court that he was a "clown" and "the Gilbert Gottfried of the Muslims," saying he did not intend to incite violence, according to the Post. He also noted he would not make the same posts today.

According to the proposal by Finance Minister Yair Lapid, value-added tax (VAT) would be eliminated for first-time apartment buyers. According to Lapid's plan, families who get the discount would have to hold onto the apartment for at least five years. This measure is intended to prevent couples from buying apartments for the purpose of trading in them. VAT is currently 18%.
Lapid's plan would provide the discount to Israelis who had at least one family member who served in the IDF – excluding most hareidi and Arab families, both groups that generally do not serve. Hareidi groups and several ministers, including Housing Minister Uri Ariel, have urged Lapid to make the plan inclusive. Ariel said he supported the plan, providing it was inclusive – adding that he himself had made a similar proposal several months ago.
It is not clear if Lapid's condition would stand up to examination by the High Court. In the past, National Insurance child allowance payments were given only to families who had a member serving in the IDF, or who had received exemptions from service. Arab and leftist groups sued, and after several decisions by the High Court in the mid-1990s, the government eliminated the requirement.
However, the Finance Ministry on Thursday said there would be no issue of discrimination, at least in the hareidi sector – because home prices there were already discounted, compared to the price of homes in secular communities. A typical four room apartment that went for NIS 1,235,000 in Bnei Brak, for example, would cost 30% more in neighboring Ramat Gan – and as much as 86% more in Tel Aviv. The apartments, the Ministry said, were of similar size, age, and in areas with populations with similar demographics.Location, location, location.... That apartment in Tel Aviv is in a fancy new tower in Ramat Aviv or Tzahala. The one in Ramat Gan is in the nicer part that doesn't border Bnei Brak. The one in Bnei Brak is on a dingy, dark street. In Jerusalem, a four-room apartment goes for NIS 1.6 million - if you're willing to wait 2-5 years for it to be built. I wonder if they tried comparing Ramat Beit Shemesh Beit to one of the National Religious neighborhoods in Beit Shemesh....

James Zogby called Hezbollah “the Lebanese armed resistance”, defended Hamas supporters and urging understanding Hamas. He was less understanding toward Jews calling Israelis “Nazis” and accusing Israel of perpetrating a Holocaust against the PLO.
A vehement opponent of freedom of speech, Zogby took the Islamist side of the Mohammed cartoon controversy, writing, “To declare, as some have, that such freedom is absolute is, of course, nonsense since every culture, by definition, has its taboos. The measure of a civilization is not the freedom it provides to defile taboos, but how respectful and sensitive it is to the taboos of diverse cultures, especially those within its midst.”
Zogby then implied that cartoons that offend Muslims should be banned.Of course, Zogby isn't the only certified Jew-hater among President Obama's recent appointments.

Maybe the ADC believed the claim that Zimmerman is a Jew. After all, the ADC honored former White House reporter Helen Thomas after she had been completely exposed as an anti-Semite.When a teenager's life is taken in cold blood and there is no accountability for the man who killed him, nothing seems right in the world. But we cannot lose hope. We can still achieve justice for Trayvon!

Gay activists apparently don't know how to tell their friends from their foes. In a region where only one country in the world doesn't execute gays, gay activists have chosen that country to boycott. Yes, of course, it's Israel. Ronn Torossian got it right:It seems that Jew-haters will always find a reason to hate the Jewish state, and will use something asinine to mask that hatred. Peter Tatchell, a leading gay activist, signed a letter this week criticizing Israel for “pinkwashing,” trying to use the acceptance of LGBTs (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community) as a “smokescreen” of supposed human rights violations of the Palestinians. In a recent letter to the media, activists from the Gay Liberation Front, Stop Clause 28, and others, stated support for the Palestinian “boycott, divestment and sanctions” campaign against Israel. It added that it is “ironic” that Israel, “in an attempt to gain a veneer of respectability by promoting itself as a liberal,” has grown tolerant towards gay people while the “oppressive regime routinely violates human rights.” So, Israel, the sole country in the Middle East which supports gay rights, is also boycotted by the gay activist community.Don Surber thinks this is about socialism:
One wonders what these gay rights activists can possibly know about these supposed human rights violations and the on-the-ground situation in Gaza or the West Bank. Surely, they haven’t traveled or spent time there, because they would know that they wouldn’t be safe with the Hamas/Palestinian government. Of course, they haven’t spoken out about the violence Jews face in these regions. One wonders what justification Tachtell and other gay activists can have to boycott Israel, their strongest supporter in the Middle East. Tachtell’s boycott started a few months earlier when he criticized the IGLYO – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Lesbian Youth and Student Organization for accepting an invitation from its Israeli chapter to hold its general assembly in Tel Aviv. He was among the first to criticize IGLYO for agreeing to a conference in Israel and said that he “fears that Israel may not be accessible to delegations from Arab countries.” They neglect the fact that Arabs can visit Israel, unlike Jews that seek to visit Arab countries.
Tachtell was successful in having the meeting moved from Israel, despite the fact that there is not a single member from the Arab world on the general assembly of this organization (for obvious reasons). Just as I wonder where the flotilla for peace to Syria is, so too am I amazed as gays and others pretend there’s a reason for hating Israel other than anti-Semitism. The heroic defender of human rights, Martin Luther King said it right when he said, “Anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism.”
Gay rights is about socialism. Maybe Israel’s biggest crime is not so much that it is a Jewish state, but that it is a refuge for so many Jewish Russian dissidents. The Soviet Union may have fallen 20+ years ago, and many people on the left are bitter over its demise.I disagree. I think it's about priorities. Jew hatred above all else.
As for Peter Tatchell specifically, I never met the man and I don’t intend to. I have no idea what he thinks of the Soviet Union. I do know that gay rights is just window dressing for his real agenda. Instead of fighting for the lives of gay Arabs, Peter Tatchell is fighting for the men who would hang them.

Evelyn Gordon reports on a trend that ought to worry anyone who is considering providing financial assistance to the disastrous Egyptian economy: The prioritizing of Jew-hatred over measures that would help Egypt's key industries to reestablish themselves. Unfortunately, Egypt’s new rulers don’t seem to have gotten the message: This week, they canceled an annual trip by Israeli pilgrims to the grave of a Jewish sage.And this isn't the first time it happened since the fall of Mubarak. In other words, they announced that pandering to anti-Israel sentiment is higher priority than reviving Egypt’s battered tourism industry, its second-largest revenue source after expatriate remittances: Not only are they forgoing the revenues this particular trip would bring (550 Israelis went last year, and more would likely have joined had Cairo not capped the delegation’s size), but they are even willing to endanger future revenues from other sources by using an excuse certain to deter other tourists: that Egypt’s “political and security situation” makes it impossible to guarantee the pilgrims’ safety.
Technically, this decision was made by the transitional military government. But the Muslim Brotherhood, winner of the recent elections, is the one that led the drive to cancel the pilgrimage, terming it “unacceptable legally and politically.” The Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party reportedly organized a human chain to stop the “Zionists” from reaching the grave of Rabbi Yaakov Abuhatzeira in Damanhur; it also issued open threats against the pilgrims: Brotherhood official Gamal Heshmat declared the pilgrimage would be a “suicide mission” for the Israelis.
In fairness, however, it’s not just the Brotherhood that deems hostility toward Israel higher priority than economic development: The Egyptian media reported that 31 parties and organizations joined the campaign against the pilgrimage, including the one led by former International Atomic Energy Agency director Mohammed ElBaradei, a darling of the West.

Now that he's a politician and not a television host, Yair Lapid is sounding more and more like his hate-filled populist father Tommy. In the column, excerpts of which were obtained by The Jerusalem Post, Lapid explained why he quit his job as anchorman of the Channel 2 news-magazine Ulpan Shishi and entered politics on Sunday. He wrote that his goal was to represent the middle-class and prevent their money from being taken by settlers, tycoons, and the government - but mostly the haredim.One of the more disgusting features about the Israeli political system is the way that careers can be advanced by pure hatred. Imagine what would happen to an American politician who attacked whites, blacks, Jews, Native Americans or Puerto Ricans because of who they are. Of course, you can't imagine that, because they'd be out of politics faster than you can say "Cynthia McKinney." But in Israel that kind of behavior is considered an acceptable norm. We should hang our heads in shame.
“Israel has been enslaved for many years by members of a shameless, extortionist, special interest group - some of whom aren't even Zionist - who take advantage of our twisted political system to steal the money of the working class,” Lapid wrote.
Acknowledging that it would disappoint many of his supporters, he said he would make an effort to refrain from attacks on the haredim, because it would play into the the hands of Shas.
“I have no interest in hating Jews, just in dividing the resources better,” he wrote. “I think haredi children must learn the core curriculum and their parents should work. I believe that there are many haredim who agree and would be happy to find out that there is someone who will struggle against the extremist rabbis and hacks who embitter their lives.”
In his attack on the settlers he said the middle-class's money can also be found in “settlements that look like Switzerland, which have roads leading to them that are better than Switzerland.”
Lapid said his first campaign sticker would say “Where is the money.” He said he was writing a platform on key issues, including the conflict with the Palestinians, socioeconomic issues, and the need for a constitution.

Earlier this week, I reported that UNESCO is funding a youth magazine called Zayzafuna, which recently admired Hitler because he murdered Jews. The Simon Wiesenthal Center has called on UNESCO to stop funding that magazine. Wiesenthal Center wrote: "How was it possible that your patronage could be abused despite the Ramallah office's responsibility to vet all projects endorsed by UNESCO?"Read the whole thing.
UNESCO responded, "thank you for drawing our attention to the information reported by Palestinian Media Watch... Allow me to underscore that UNESCO takes this matter extremely seriously and it cannot but strongly deplore and condemn the statements you are referring to... We will bring this matter to the attention of the concerned Palestinian authorities..."
The Wiesenthal Center called UNESCO's response "inadequate."
A letter from the office of UNESCO's Director-General read:Of course, the 'Palestinian Authority' - as UNESCO's letter notes - is publishing this magazine and they obviously have no problem with it. Some 'peace partner.'"UNESCO’s attention has been drawn to the February 2011 issue of the Palestinian children’s magazine Zayzafouna. This magazine is published by an NGO of the same name under the patronage of the Palestinian National Commission for UNESCO, which is the national body set up by the Palestinian Authority to facilitate its work with the Organization. The February issue features a story written by a 10-year-old girl in which Hitler is quoted by her as stating that he “killed [the Jews] so you would all know that they are a nation who wreak havoc on Earth”. While UNESCO upholds freedom of expression as an integral part of its mandate, the inclusion in this publication of a statement that may be interpreted as an apology of the holocaust is contrary to UNESCO’s constitutional mandate and values. It is totally unacceptable.
UNESCO supported the publication of three issues of the Zayzafouna Magazine six months after the February 2011 issue. The support was provided for these issues following agreement with the editorial board that they would focus on building greater appreciation amongst Palestinians for their heritage and culture. They were to open the way for positive dialogue aimed at overcoming the consequences of the Middle East conflict, and to fight against stereotypes that may be conducive to violence. It was UNESCO’s intention to foster a positive view of Palestinian heritage based on the values of tolerance and UNESCO’s mandate of building peace in the minds of men and women. This vision guides all of UNESCO’s activities, and we urge all partners to work in this direction.
UNESCO is shocked and dismayed by the content of the February issue, and has requested more detailed information and clarification from the editors of the magazine and to Palestinian Authority.
UNESCO strongly deplores and condemns the reproduction of such inflammatory statements in a magazine associated with UNESCO’s name and mission and will not provide any further support to the publication in question.
The Organization, which is deeply committed to the development and promotion of education about the Holocaust, disassociates itself from any statement that is counter to its founding principles and goals of building tolerance in the full respect for human rights and human dignity."

Someone remind me to try this when I get home: I should gather every Lebanese Twitter and Facebook account and send them messages/friend them. I know that I already follow some Lebanese on Twitter. Maybe I can get them into trouble too. You see, Lebanese law is not designed for the age of the internet (Hat Tip: Elder of Ziyon). And in fact, I don't even have to wait until I get home. I can do it from right here in the US. What happens if, while abroad, you make a friend who happens to be Israeli? What if you are attending an event with participants from the Jewish State and shake an Israeli representative’s hand? What if you bought a magazine that was printed in Tel Aviv and wanted to bring it back home?Now Lebanon decided to ask the law firm of Badri and Salim El Meouchi how far this Lebanese law goes. You'll love the answers. And here's the best part: Although Now Lebanon's site asks you not to reproduce more than 25% of an article, they aren't allowed to contact me under Lebanese law, so I can reproduce the whole thing and there's nothing they can do about it. Heh. More after the fold.
These questions may seem superfluous to non-Lebanese, but for natives of the Land of the Cedars, engaging in any activity with an Israeli, physically or not, can land you in hot water.
That is because relations between Israelis and Lebanese are governed by two half-century-old laws: the 1943 Lebanese Criminal Code and the 1955 Lebanese Anti-Israeli Boycott Law, the former of which forbids any interaction with nationals of enemy states, and the latter of which specifies Israelis.
To boot, because in the laws’ eyes Lebanese nationality takes primacy over any other, a Lebanese who has dual citizenship and is involved in an exchange with an Israeli anywhere in the world can be legally prosecuted in a Lebanese court.

I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren.
