Turkey refuses new Iran sanctions; US delays sanctions by six months
With Turkey refusing to implement new US sanctions against Iran, the Obama administration has postponed the sanctions' implementation for six months. This is from the first link. Semih Idiz, who writes for the Turkish newspaper Milliyet, said Burns is the latest in a string of high-level American officials to visit Turkey.To avoid a confrontation with Turkey(?), the Obama administration has decided to postpone the sanctions' implementation for six months.
"Turkey has made it clear it's against sanctions on Iran. So now we see Washington actively lobbying Turkey at the highest level. This adds pressure on Turkey, of course. But it doesn't resolve Turkey's dilemma of having to tread a cautious line between these two sides," said Idiz.
Turkey claims Iranians will face undue economic hardship if it complies with additional U.S. sanctions that target Iran's energy sector.
But Turkish companies also are profiting from Ankara's resistance, said Turkey-Iran expert Mehrdad Emadi.
President Barack Obama approved new sanctions against Iran a week ago, targeting the central bank and its ability to sell oil abroad. The US has delayed implementing the sanctions for at least six months, worried about sending the price of oil higher at a time when the global economy is struggling.This President cannot be given any discretion. What could go wrong?

G-d forbid Obama take a "bold stand" like he always says, and implement sanction independently of what Turkey or any other nation has to say. His spinelessness is a dangerous..
And Panetta says Iran getting the bomb is a "red line" but, of course, G-d forbid, Iran isn't actually trying to get one.
The sanctions were never ever ever really about stopping Iran from going nuke but about a) containment (maybe), b) appeasing US public opinion, and c) preventing anyone from actually taking military action to do what the sanctions were pretending to do. Obama, simply put, and not uncharitably, lies. Here in America we are stuck with him but Israel should know the character of the man when considering any "guarantees" from a man afraid of Islamist threats.
