Tom Friedman calls the Muslim Brotherhood 'legitimate, authentic and progressive'

At the American University in Cairo on Monday, Tom Friedman picked up where he left off in 2011.
This is from the first link. "For decades, Egyptians were missing the Arab nationalist, and most importantly, an authentic political alternative during Mubarak's rule, now they finally found it represented in the 83-year-old Islamist group of the Muslim Brotherhood," Friedman said.

"The Muslim Brotherhood is legitimate, authentic, progressive alternative. Only faced by the four-month old liberals, they had to win," he added.
And Friedman gave his friends at the Brotherhood some sage advice.
"In the US we are faced with three major challenges: education, climate change, and severe budget deficit, and I would say that Egypt also suffers similar challenges," he explained, adding that facing these challenges will put whoever in power in the spotlight, leaving more chances for the people to judge those in power by their performance only.
I would say that Egypt's first priority is food. But what do I know - I don't have a column in the New York Times.

He's no sillier than George Galloway who at least openly works for Iran. Uncle Tom takes his money under the table.

Judith Miller, before she went to jail to protect the underminers, spent years in the Middle East (unfortunately? as Cairo bureau chief for the NYTimes). She put out a book in 1997 called God Has 99 Names that documented (maybe) the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamist groups. I need to dig it out again for a compare and contrast operation re Tom Friedman. Because I for sure don't remember her saying the the Muslim Bros are legitimate, authentic, and progressive. Looks like they have it on kindle now too: http://www.amazon.com/GOD-HAS-NINETY-NINE-NAMES/dp/B000C4SGDC/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1326215629&sr=1-1

Pulitzer Prize or no Pulitzer Prize, this statement by Thomas Friedman made at the AUC Monday about the Muslim Brotherhood is ridiculous!

I wrote about it at The Political Commentator and linked to you for the photo attribution.
