German Middle East studies group bans participants from Ariel University
On Sunday, the email below was forwarded to me. It is reprinted here with Dr. Cohen's permission. From: Meyer, GuenterAriel is not an 'illegal settlement' (nor are any of the 'settlements' illegal). And since when has a German university become a part of law enforcement even if they were? And why should Professor Cohen and his students (many of whom are Arabs!) be penalized because someone claims (incorrectly) that Ariel is an 'illegal settlement.'[Phone numbers redacted]

Subject: Cancellation of Participation in the DAVO Congress
To: Ronen A. Cohen
Dear Ronen A. Cohen,
I am very sorry to inform you that the Council of the German Middle East Studies Association (DAVO) has decided to cancel your participation in the 18th International Congress of DAVO in Berlin on 6-8 October 2011.
It is not acceptable that a representative of an illegally established Israeli university in the occupied territories is participating in this conference. The settlement of Ariel represents a clear violation of international law. This cannot be tolerated by DAVO.
I would like to stress that this decision of the DAVO Council has nothing to do with anti-Semitism. Scholars from Israel are most welcome as participants of this international conference - but scholars from an illegal university in the occupied territories are not welcome.
Yours sincerely,
Guenter Meyer
Chairman of DAVO

Wow! Germany hit on a two-fer! They cut out some Jews AND some Arabs! Way to go, Germany!
BTW, did you see Atlas's post with the interview of the 9/11 "20th hijacker"'s mom, who said he was radicalized by FRENCH racism against him.
The Euros must be so proud of their role in bringing about endless death and destruction in the world, while thinking they are some kind of master race or something.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, thinking you'll get a different result. Try something new, Germany!
So, Bir Zeit would be a legal university in the "occupied territories?" I'm just trying to get this straight.
All countries are built on "occupied" land. That's how Germany, Italy, France, the UK, etc were unified, but what do I know? I'd think that having someone from Ariel would be perfect for a conference claiming to represent the middle east.
Unbeliever... good point. So all the people speaking Spanish in the Southwest of the U.S. should be called out as speaking an imperialist occupier language? I've insisted my kids learn Spanish, so, obviously, I don't actually think that. I'm making a point here about the left's attempt at dictating, picking and choosing, eliminating blind application of law, all the constitutional principles that have allowed people from all cultures and races to live in peace in the U.S. and reach whatever level of achievement they put enough energy into.
Israel is like that too. Don't forget that the security barrier/fence is to keep criminal killers out of the tiny coastal area that is Israel, not to keep anyone in. And, of course, the Germans say nothing about the rockets onto civilians being fired from Gaza civilian areas, AFTER all Israelis moved out of that territory in 2005. So when Israelis move out, those plots of land become rocket launching sites. And Germany says, "Evacuate the burbs east of Jerusalem of all Jews. And if you get even the most low tech rockets onto Tel Aviv and the industrial areas, tough toenails." Doesn't this just sound like exactly what you would think the German Master Racers would say about this?
Anybody who hasn't gone there to see how it ACTUALLY is, rather than how the German Master Race says how it is, should go. You'll love the place.
oh my god. I am terribly ashamed of the country I live in, Germany. Or rather of its people and political culture. I am dreaming of leaving Germany. I couldn't stand it for the rest of my life.
Dear Carl,
many thanks for your alertness to abominable things. I sent a response to the President and the Chancellor of the JGU Mainz, feel free to link to the relevant post.
Cancellation was rescinded and Prof. Meyer apologized: See update at the previous link.
