Is this an Israeli rifle?

Lebanon's Naharnet reports that Hezbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah presented Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with a gift: The 'personal weapon' of an Israeli soldier that was recovered during the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

I'm not a military expert, but I've seen enough IDF soldiers in the streets to know what their weapons look like. Those of you who are experts, please look at this photo and tell me what kind of gun this is and whether it's used in the IDF.

It doesn't look like any IDF weapon I've seen. But I could be wrong.

Yes.

Its an Israeli FN FAL.

I wouldn't have thought they were in front line service in the 2006 conflict.

It's a Galil rifle, used since 1974, but rarely used today. It probably wasn't used in 2006. It might be a holdover from the 2000 evacuation.

It looks like an old FN FAL rifle, it's definitely not a Galil as it's too long, has a square magazine and prominent charging handle. The FN FAL was used by the IDF about 30 years ago. If it was captured in 2006 then the Israeli soldier must have been taking part in some sort of historical re-enactment!

Sorry. My bad. Steve is right. It's an old FN FAL. It wasn't used in 206 and probably not in 2000 either.

looks like an early version of the FN (don't know about the Israeli version, but only the Dutch and Austrians used the FN with a wooden stock, all the other European armies used a folding stock). Not been used in Israeli frontline units since the early 70's, was replaced with the M16 and/or Galil.

its an Israeli FN FAL, used from 1974 until 1981.

the FAL usually has a one-piece metal handgaurd with perforated forward section . The Israeli version had a woden hardguard behind the perforated metal section.

The FAL was replaced by the Galil which could be seen on the streets here until a couple years ago.

It is still used by the South African police force and army and is known as the R4.

This rifle was probably captured some time during operation peace galilee or shortly there after

I thought I saw that in the hands of Eliot Ness.
