Video: Israel's UNESCO Ambassasdor trashes resolution denying Jewish connection to Temple Mount

Israel's Ambassador to UNESCO, Carmel Shama-HaCohen, reacts to Wednesday's UNESCO resolution denying the Jewish connection to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.

Let's go to the videotape.

Ambassador Shama-HaCohen has been recalled from UNESCO for 'consultations.'

“Don’t know much about history . . . Don’t know much about geography.”

Victor Davis Hanson laments the President of the United States' boorishness when it comes to history and geography. Of course, that boorishness helps him to follow his instincts and to be anti-Israel.
In the case of geography, Harvard Law School graduate Barack Obama recently lectured, “If we don’t deepen our ports all along the Gulf — places like Charleston, South Carolina; or Savannah, Georgia; or Jacksonville, Florida . . . ” The problem is that all the examples he cited are cities on the East Coast, not the Gulf of Mexico. If Obama does not know where these ports are, how can he deepen them?
Obama’s geographical confusion has become habitual. He once claimed that he had been to all “57 states.” He also assumed that Kentucky was closer to Arkansas than it was to his adjacent home state of Illinois.
In reference to the Falkland Islands, President Obama called them the Maldives — islands southwest of India — apparently in a botched effort to use the Argentine-preferred “Malvinas.” The two island groups may sound somewhat alike, but they are continents apart. Again, without basic geographical knowledge, the president’s commentary on the Falklands is rendered superficial.
When in the state of Hawaii, Obama announced that he was in “Asia.” He lamented that the U.S. Army’s Arabic-language translators assigned to Iraq could better be used in Afghanistan, failing to recognize that Arabic isn’t the language of Afghanistan. And he also apparently thought Austrians speak a language other than German.
The president’s geographical illiteracy is a symptom of the nation’s growing ignorance of once-essential subjects such as geography and history. The former is not taught any more as a required subject in many of our schools and colleges. The latter has often been redefined as race, class, and gender oppression so as to score melodramatic points in the present rather than to learn from the tragedy of the past.
The president in his 2009 Cairo speech credited the European Renaissance and Enlightenment to Islam’s “light of learning” — an exaggeration if not an outright untruth on both counts.
Closer to home, the president claimed in 2011 that Texas had historically been Republican — while in reality it was a mostly Jim Crow Democratic state for over a century. Republicans started consistently carrying Texas only after 1980.
Recently, Obama claimed that 20th-century Communist strongman Ho Chi Minh “was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson.” That pop assertion is improbable, given that Ho systematically liquidated his opponents, slaughtered thousands in land-redistribution schemes, and brooked no dissent.
Those who ignore the past are destined to repeat it. And those who cannot find a place on a map cannot appreciate its challenges. Obama is a disaster.

UNESCO is telling the lie often enough - will it become the truth?

Giulio Meotti reports that UNESCO is on its way to 'deciding' that the land of Israel has no historical connection to the Jewish people.
UNESCO is pursuing a diabolical Arabized geography which opens the door to a Jüdenrein Judea, a de-Judaized “holy land”, as the anti-Semitic semanticists call it.
But the attack on language is more than semantic. If it’s Jewish, then it’s called “Judea and Samaria”. If it’s “West Bank” or “Palestine”, those are justifications for saying that “Jews stole it”. And the Palestinian Arabs, whose members came to the holy land from the Arabian desert in the 7th century, become the descendants of the long-disappeared, so-called “indigenous Canaanites” of the Bible.
That's why a few days ago Irina Bokova, head of UNESCO, sent a message to the Palestinian Authority “on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”,in which she proclaims the support for "the Palestinian cultural industry".
Battir, however, is not “a Palestinian village” with an old irrigation system, it’s the holy site of the ancient Jewish fortress of Betar, the site of the last organized resistance of the Jews to Roman rule in 135 C.E. during the historically documenteed Bar Kochba rebellion.
But in the UNESCO protocols there is no mention of Betar.
According to the UNESCO-Palestinian Authority joint venture, Eretz Yisrael is a myth, a colonialist construct, a Jewish plot.
UNESCO’s next steps are underto take place under Israel’s nose: very soon the Temple Mount, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Joseph’s Tomb and the Shalom al Israel synagogue will be designated as “mosques” by the UN’s agency.
Slapping history squarely in the face, UNESCO has already adopted the Arab-islamic propaganda and declared that Rachel’s Tomb and Hevron’s Cave of the Patriarchs are “Muslim mosques”.
Read the whole thing.

The only good news here is that the United States Congress cut off UNESCO's funding last year, so at least the US isn't paying for this monstrosity.  Of course, the Obama administration would like to reinstate the funding, but so long as he doesn't find a trick to circumvent Congress (and he'd have to cancel a vacation to do that), I see little chance of that happening.

3,300 consecutive years living in Israel

I remember being taken to meet Margalit Zinati, whose family has lived in Israel for 3,300 years, and in the town Pekiin since the destruction of the Second Temple about 1942 years ago, during a summer trip I took to Israel in 1972. Her remarkable story, an appropriate one for the days leading up to Tisha b'Av, is here.

UN 'peace' envoy at Doha

Israel's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement slamming the United Nations' representative to the Middle East 'peace' quartet, Robert Serry, for attending the 'International Conference for the Defense of Jerusalem' in Doha.
Official sources said that the Foreign Ministry is furious over the participation of Robert Serry, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace, in the International Conference for Defense of Jerusalem in Doha, Qatar.

"Serry's betraying his position in the UN, just by his presence at the conference. He rarely denounces Qassam rockets fired from Gaza to Israel," one source said. The sources estimated that Serry will be summoned for a meeting in which he will likely be reprimanded.
Reprimanded by whom? For what? What ought to happen is that Israel should refuse to meet with him and should demand that the 'quartet' replace him. Wasn't the 'quartet' supposed to be at least somewhat impartial? Throw the bum out.

The Optimistic Conservative has a full rundown of who is whom at the conference. You should definitely read the whole thing. There are many other attendees about whom Israel has thus far remained silent.

EU blasts Jewish homes as 'obstacle to peace'

You just knew this was coming. It took a surprising nearly 24 hours, but the EU has blasted Israel's plans to construct 300 (count 'em) Jewish homes in Beitar Ilit and Karnei Shomron as an 'obstacle to peace.'
"We reiterate that the EU considers that settlement activities in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law, undermine trust between the parties and constitute an obstacle to peace," Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, was quoted as saying by AFP.

She added, "These actions run counter to the repeated efforts of the international community to achieving a peaceful solution to the conflict that will preserve Israels security and realize the Palestinians' right to statehood."
There is one - and only one - obstacle to peace: The Arab (including the 'Palestinians') refusal to accept the existence of a Jewish state on what they consider Dar-al-Islam. And that obstacle is not going away in your lifetime or mine.

Photographic evidence: Jews lived in Shiloah (Silwan) in 1901

The pictures above are from the Library of Congress. On Friday, Picture A Day published the picture above with the following note (Hat Tip: Joseph S).
The caption on this Library of Congress photograph reads, "The village of Siloam [i.e. Siloan, Shiloah, Silwan] and Valley of Kedron, Palestine." But whoever wrote the caption, perhaps 110 years ago, missed an important fact. The man standing above his village is a Jew from Yemen.

...

But another migration took place 70 years ago in 1881-1882 when a group of Jews of Yemen arrived by foot to Jerusalem. They belonged to no "Zionist movement." They returned out of an age-old religious fervor to return to Zion.

The new immigrants settled on Jewish-owned property in the Shiloah Village outside of the Old City walls of Jerusalem.

The gentleman in the photograph above wears the distinctive Jewish Yemenite clothing of the time, according to a Yemenite expert today.
The blogger (my friend, Lenny Ben David) has other pictures of Yemenite Jews from the period that prove he's correct, and has also received emails from Yemenite Jews regarding the photograph.

Read the whole thing.

Today, Shiloah (Silwan) is a center of controversy with Arabs trying to deny that Jews ever lived there and Jews living there under armed guard.

'Palestinians' trying to make an international court case out of Israeli archaeological excavations

The 'Palestinians' and their Arab allies are trying to put together a court case to take to the 'International Court of Justice' in the Hague against Israeli archaeological excavations in Jerusalem.
Arab experts on Wednesday took the first steps towards taking international legal action against Israel for ongoing excavations near the old city of Jerusalem.

Arab archaeologists, conservationists and heritage experts met in Amman yesterday to gather what they claim are documented impacts of ongoing Israeli projects altering the identity of the Holy City.

The two-day gathering of the committee of experts, held under the auspices of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) at the Department of Antiquities (DoA), aims to take Israel to task for violations ranging from changing historical street names to excavations underneath Al Aqsa Mosque.

Once the documentation is complete, the committee will draft a report and issue recommendations for a case to be brought before the International Court of Justice, according to DoA Director Ziad Saad.

"We aim to gather sound scientific evidence for politicians to take up the case at the international level," he told The Jordan Times on the sidelines of the meeting, which was opened by Minister of Tourism Haifa Abu Ghazaleh.

Moawiyah Ibrahim, Jordan's representative to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, said the move comes amidst concerns that Israeli authorities are abusing archaeology for political ends.

"Israel has used Biblical texts to support their national narrative and have disregarded Arab-Islamic heritage," he said.
And we all know how unbiased UNESCO is, don't we?

Does anyone think that the 'international community' will stand up and call the 'Palestinians' on their denial of history by claiming that the Jewish Temples never existed? I'm still waiting to hear the Pope stand up and say that the Jewish Temples existed because Jesus was in the Second Temple.

But all I hear is crickets chirping.

Saudi Naval officer: What if the Arabs had recognized Israel in 1948?

A Saudi Naval officer asks an interesting question that should be asked a lot more in the Arab world: What would have happened if the Arabs had just recognized Israel in 1948?
If Israel was recognized in 1948, then the Palestinians would have been able to free themselves from the hollow promises of some Arab dictators who kept telling them that the refugees would be back in their homes and all Arab lands will be liberated and Israel will be sent to the bottom of the sea. Some Arab leaders used the Palestinians for their own agenda to suppress their own people and to stay in power.

Since 1948, if an Arab politician wanted to be the hero and the leader of the Arab world, then he has a very easy way to do it. He just shouts as loud as he can about the intention to destroy Israel, without mobilizing one soldier (Talk is cheap).

If Israel was recognized in 1948, then there would have been no need for a coup in Egypt against King Farouq in 1952 and there would have been no attack on Egypt in 1956 by The UK, France and Israel. Also there will be no war in June 1967 and the size of Israel will not be increased and we, the Arabs would not have the need for a UN resolution to beg Israel to go back to the pre-1967 borders. And no war of attrition between Egypt and Israel that caused more casualties on the Egyptian side than the Israeli side.

After the 1967 war, Israel became a strategic ally of the US because before this war, the US was not as close to Israel as people in the Arab world think. The Israelis fought in that war using mainly French and British weapons. At that time, the US administrations refused to supply Israel with more modern aircraft and weapon systems such as the F-4 Phantom.

The Palestinian misery was also used to topple another stable monarchy, this time in Iraq and replacing it with a bloody dictatorship in one of the richest countries of the world. Iraq is rich in minerals, water reserves, fertile land and archaeological sites. The military led by Abdul Karim Qassim killed King Faisal II and his family. Bloodshed in Iraq continued and this Arab country has seen more violent revolutions and one of them was carried out in the 1960s by a brigade that was sent to help liberate Palestine. Instead it made a turn and went back and took over Baghdad. Even years later, Saddam Hussien said that he will liberate Jerusalem via Kuwait. He used Palestinians misery as an excuse to invade Kuwait.
Read the whole thing. I wonder how many other Arabs realize just how badly they messed this up.

Egyptian children's television show: 'We must liberate Jerusalem from the hands of the disgusting Jews'

Here's an Egyptian children's television show (that rabbit looks remarkably like the one on Hamas' show) in which the children are taught that they are supposed to 'liberate' Jerusalem from the hands of the 'disgusting Jews.'

This was shown on December 29, 2010, which was still in the Mubarak era. It's only going to get worse now.

Let's go to the videotape.
