Hamas to world: Get your pocketbooks out
Hamas announced on Sunday that the Gaza Strip sustained $1.2 billion in damages during Operation Pillar of Defense. Of course, Hamas does not have that kind of money lying around. Is the world ready to pony up for them?Hamas said on Sunday the cost of damage caused by Operation Pillar of Defense's eight-day bombardment of the Gaza Strip will reach $700 million in indirect damages, and $500 million in direct damages to the city, Palestinian news agency PalToday reported, making total damages of more than $1.2 billion. On the other hand, I saw an article today that described damages from Operation Cast Lead in 2008-09 as not having been repaired. So maybe they can just do without.
According to PalToday, Hamas issued a preliminary estimate of damage caused by "Israeli aggression" in an official statement. According to the statement, a total of 200 buildings were demolished, and around eight thousand damaged.
Heh.
