Moadim l'Simcha, a happy holiday to all of you. I know that it's been a while since I posted on this blog - finding the time to sit down and write more than 140 characters has been difficult recently because of work. But it's been quiet today and I thought I would post something.
When does no one care if 'Palestinians' die? When they are killed by other 'Palestinians.' I've been saying that for years, but now, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said the same thing - to Russian Middle East envoy Nikolay Mladenov.
According to the statement, Liberman protested that the UN is ignoring a
number of killings and executions that have happened in recent days
among the Palestinians in the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon, as
well as in Gaza.
“The international community’s ignoring dozens
of dead and wounded shows again the hypocrisy and the double standard
that the world employs by ignoring these grave incidents, while on the
other hand condemning Israel’s justified actions against terrorism,” he
said.
Liberman, according to the statement, expects that the
issue of intra-Palestinian killings will be raised at the next meeting
of the UN Security Council.
Who does he think will raise it? Does anyone really care?
Mladenov’s office issued a “no comment” when asked about the phone call.

On Saturday, Mladenov issued a statement saying that he was “deeply concerned” by growing tensions in Gaza.
He
said that over the past decade the Palestinians in Gaza “have lived
through four conflicts, with no freedom, unprecedented Israeli
restrictions, a dire humanitarian crisis, high unemployment, an ongoing
electricity crisis and the lack of political perspective.”
Mladenov
called on all Palestinian factions to allow the Palestinian Government
to assume its responsibility in Gaza. “Gaza is an integral part of the
future Palestinian state and no efforts should be spared to bring about
real national reconciliation that ends the division. Leaders have a
responsibility to avoid escalation and bridge the growing divide between
Gaza and the West Bank that further fragments the Palestinian people.”
'Unprecedented Israeli restrictions'? Really? That would be news to East Germans, Hungarians, Czechoslovaks and ordinary Russians.
And which 'Palestinian Government' does Mladenov expect to function in Russia? The one that is in the 12th year of its four-year term? Or the Hamas 'government' which throws its opponents off building roofs?
No, the world doesn't care when 'Palestinians' or other Arabs die - so long as Israel is not involved. That double standard is anti-Semitism - pure and simple.
Deja vu all over again: As Syrians die, 'flotilla' to arrive in 'besieged Gaza' on Wednesday
Bashar al-Assad must be pleased. As millions starve in Aleppo, Syria, the world is focused on a 'flotilla' headed for the 'besieged Gaza Strip,' which is due to arrive on Wednesday evening.
The all women solidarity ship called “Zaytouna” -- meaning "olives" in
Arabic -- is expected to arrive in the besieged Gaza Strip in two days
after setting off from the shores of Barcelona, Spain last month as part
of the larger Freedom Flotilla aimed at disrupting Israel’s nearly
decade-long siege on the small Palestinian territory, according to a
statement released Tuesday by the International Committee for Breaking
the Siege of Gaza.
The committee said that the 13 women
activists on board are set to arrive in the besieged coastal enclave on
Wednesday evening or Thursday morning after traveling for nearly 2,000
miles, if the ship is not obstructed by Israeli naval forces en route to
the shores of Gaza. The committee called upon
international activists to work on conducting media, political, and
popular campaigns to exert pressure on Israel in order to guarantee a
safe arrival for the Zaytouna solidarity ship and the women aboard.
The
Freedom Flotilla initially consisted of another solidarity ship called
“Amal” -- meaning “hope” in Arabic, but according to the committee the
Amal ship would not participate in the solidarity mission after facing
"unforeseen circumstances" that were out of the control of the
organizers.
'Palestinian' media is reporting that the Israeli Navy has been ordered to stop the ship. And the women on board have been whining to the media that they fear an Israeli 'attack.'
The Zaytouna-Oliva, one of two vessels that set sail from Barcelona
in September in a bid to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, expects
to be 100 nautical miles off the shores of the Hamas-ruled area by
Wednesday morning, according to a South African passenger who talked to Agence France Presse on Tuesday. Leigh-Ann Naidoo told AFP, "We are not worried about what Israel plans on doing."
Spokeswoman
Claude Leotic told AFP, "We fear there will be an Israeli attack" to
prevent the boat from reaching Gaza's shores. As in the past, the
Israeli navy is expected to intercept the boat and escort it to the port
of Ashdod, arresting and deporting those on board.
By the way, there are at least two self-proclaimed Israelis on board. Because after all they're starving in Gaza.
In Israel, which is an OECD country, my two youngest children studied in a school that doesn't have a building last year (one of them will still be there when school starts on Sunday). They study in corrugated tin boxes that are boiling in the summer and freezing in the winter.
Funny, I don't see the 'international community' lining up to give my kids a fancy school building like the one in the picture above.

The international media and the 'human rights' group would have you believe that Gaza is impoverished, overcrowded, densely populated, has no recreation and has people who live in constant fear of an Israeli attack. In short, they refer to it as 'the World's largest concentration camp.'
That's a lie.

But don't worry - that won't stop the Europeans from organizing 'flotillas' to Gaza while ignoring the thousands dying by barrel bombs in Assad's Syria because... priorities.
We all know that the word 'impoverished' always precedes 'Gaza Strip.' But apparently, Hamas' rulers have decided that poverty isn't good for investment, so they've come up with an innovative way to eradicate it: They're arresting beggars.
On May 24, the director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs of the General
Investigation Department of the Palestinian police in the Gaza Strip,
Imad Harb, announced in a press statement to Safa Press Agency the arrest of 72 beggars, including 42 children in the streets of Gaza. The arrests were part of the campaign launched
May 8 by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Gaza in cooperation with the
Palestinian police and the Ministry of Culture to fight begging and
arrest beggars in Gaza’s streets.
Harb said in his statement that the problem of beggars is being
addressed by making them sign pledges not to return to the streets after
their arrest. In case the beggar returns to panhandling, the necessary
legal measures will be taken for violation of Article 193
of the 1936 Palestinian Penal Code. According to this article, begging
is an illegitimate source of income, and beggars are punished with a
one-month prison sentence the first time they are caught and a one-year
sentence the second time.
However, this campaign has sparked controversy
in the Palestinian street, as some questioned its effectiveness in
light of the poor living conditions and the government’s failure to
address its causes, namely the high poverty and unemployment rates.
Meanwhile, some believe that this campaign is important given that
there are panhandlers who are not in need and who have just opted for
begging to make money.
And I'm sure Hamas knows just who those panhandlers are....
But hey - no way to blame Israel for this one, so what difference does it make?
Even UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has called the flotilla of fools currently heading for Gaza 'not helpful.'
“[Secretary General Ban Ki-moon] continues to
believe that a flotilla will not help to address the dire situation in
Gaza and reiterates his calls on the government of Israel to lift all
closures, with due consideration of Israel’s legitimate security
concerns,” Undersecretary General Jeffrey Feltman said at a Security
Council briefing.
“The international community must send an
unambiguous message to the organizers and participants of these
provocations that such initiatives only serve to raise tensions in our
region,” Prosor wrote. “This attempt to challenge Israel’s naval
blockade of Gaza holds the potential for dangerous consequences The
flotilla’s sole purpose is to create provocations that pose security
risks, and constitute a breach of international law.”
Feltman said Ban was “closely following media reports” about the flotilla.
Ban is also 'deeply concerned' with the health of terrorists.
Feltman also said Ban was “deeply concerned”
about Palestinian prisoners being held by Israel, naming Islamic Jihad
detainee Khader Adnan, who has been on hunger strike for nearly two
months to protest his detainment under administrative detention, which
allows Israel to hold prisoners without charging them.
The Red Cross on Tuesday said Adnan faced “immediate risk of death.”
He wouldn't be facing an immediate threat of death if he weren't starving himself. Maybe he should consider breaking his fast.... /Just sayin'....
In any event, it is truly amazing how much time Ban has to devote to Gaza given the true suffering going on in Syria, Iran, Iraq and many other countries that are living under truly repressive regimes. Oh wait... Gaza is also living under a truly repressive regime... Hamas... It would be nice to see Ban criticize them once in a while too.
By the way, if the name "Jeffrey Feltman" rings a bill, it's because it should. He's a former State Department diplomat....
Hamas is seething over the closure of Israel's crossing points into Gaza in response to rocket fire by the terror organization on Friday. The crossings are closed indefinitely (except for humanitarian emergencies).
Senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouq early Sunday condemned an
Israeli decision to close crossings into Gaza, calling it "collective
punishment."
"The justifications given by the (Israeli) occupation to shut down crossings are unacceptable," Abu Marzouq said in a statement.
He also criticized the Palestinian Authority for what he called a failure to arrange the entry of goods into Gaza.
"Where
does the PA come in regarding this Israeli closure? And where does it
come in regarding its responsibilities, especially after PA employees
have resumed work at Gaza crossings?"
He said Israel's decision to close the crossings violated international laws and conventions.
Instead
of closing the crossings, he said Israel should establish more
crossings in order to allow for greater freedom of movement for people
and goods in and out of Gaza.
Israeli authorities on Saturday
announced that the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings would be closed until
further notice, following reports that a projectile fired from Gaza
landed in Israel overnight Friday without causing damage or injuries.
They said exceptions would be made for humanitarian emergencies.

Hamas' Marzouk threatens new war if 'blockade' is not lifted
In an interview with the Associated Press on Thursday, Hamas deputy politburo leader Moussa Abu Marzouk threatened another war with Israel if the 'blockade' of the Gaza Strip is not lifted. The current truce expires next Thursday. Israel refuses to lift the 'blockade' from its side unless Hamas is disarmed. And no one is even asking about lifting the 'blockade' from the Egyptian side.
The
deputy leader of Hamas, Moussa Abu Marzouk, insisted Thursday that
Hamas won the war, despite the apparent military setbacks.
He
said his group's popularity among Palestinians has increased and that
it would likely defeat Abbas and his Fatah movement if elections were
held today.
Early
this month, a survey conducted by a prominent West Bank pollster found a
significant increase in support for Hamas after the war.
Abu Marzouk warned that failure to negotiate a new Gaza deal and a lifting of the blockade would "lead to another war."
"We
don't want that, and the Israelis, I guess, don't like to see that
(war) again," he said in halting English, speaking in an office in a
Gaza City high-rise overlooking the Mediterranean.
Abu
Marzouk, the deputy of exiled Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal, said the
people of Gaza lived in a difficult situation before the war as a result
of the blockade.
"We
can't put the Palestinians after the war in the same situation," said
Abu Marzouk, who has lived in Egypt for the past three years but has
visited Gaza several times. "They (the Israelis) have to change their
policy."
There are a lot of people in Israel who would love another crack at finishing Hamas off. Hmmm.
Report: IAF destroys 7-story building in Rafah in 'change of tactics' (wth attack video and pictures)
For the second time in less than 24 hours, the IDF destroyed a large building that housed Hamas command and control centers in Gaza. This time, it happened in Rafah.
For the second time in two days, Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on
Sunday reduced a tall building to rubble, signaling a change of tactics
under which any structure used by Hamas can be put on Israel’s target
list.
Sunday’s early-morning strikes hit a seven-story office building in
the southern town of Rafah, leveling it and badly damaging an adjacent
shopping mall. A day earlier, a 12-story apartment tower in Gaza City
was destroyed, showering the area with smashed masonry.

While Hamas continues its terrorist actions, the IDF continues to
transfer goods to Palestinians in Gaza. On August 3, the IDF transferred
186 truckloads of food, medical supplies, fuel and other goods into
Gaza via the Kerem Shalom border crossing.

This is rich: Ship that was to carry exports from Gaza to Europe mysteriously sinks
A ship (okay, it's a bit small to call a ship) that was to carry exports from Gaza to Europe mysteriously sank after an explosion early Tuesday morning. This from the ship's web site.
At 3:45 AM Gaza time on April 29th, the night guard on board Gaza's Ark received a call to leave the boat because it was going to be attacked.
The guard left, but when nothing happened, he returned after 5 minutes. A few minutes later, a large explosion rocked the boat causing extensive damage.
The boat sank part way and is now sitting on the shallow sea floor. The guard was not injured but was taken to hospital for tests.
Mahfouz Kabariti, Gaza’s Ark Project Manager, says: “The extent and nature of the damage are currently being investigated. We will provide an update when available.”
"Gaza’s Ark and all our partners in the Freedom Flotilla Coalition are considering our next move in response to this cowardly act of terrorism, but our position remains clear: Neither this nor any other attack will stop our efforts to challenge the blockade of Gaza until it ends," adds David Heap of Gaza's Ark Steering Committee.
"Freedom Flotilla boats have been sabotaged before. This attack comes as we were almost ready to sail. You can sink a boat but you can't sink a movement," concludes Ehab Lotayef, another member of the Steering Committee.
Sorry but terrorism involves randomly killing innocent people - not warning the one person who could be hurt to get away. That would argue against this being an internal Hamas-Islamic Jihad dispute. Maybe....
The ship intended to sail from Gaza carrying produce to Europe,
Palestinian News Agency Ma'an reported. If the activists succeeded in
their mission, it would be the first time since the Oslo accords in 1994
that goods from Gaza had been exported by sea.
Only the Europeans would be stupid enough to allow their public to buy produce grown in sewer water. I hope that if it ever gets to Europe it is clearly marked so that all the useful idiots will know to buy it.

Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction
went on the offensive Thursday, claiming that Hamas in Gaza is corrupt
and "doesn't represent the Palestinian people."
Fatah Spokesman Ahmad Assaf told Erem News that Hamas's
attempts to influence Egypt's inner workings are "unacceptable," noting
the ties between Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, both of which have been outlawed in the Nile state for their part in terror attacks.
Egypt has done more for the Palestinian Arabs than Hamas or the
Muslim Brotherhood, who merely spew empty slogans and sell religion
according to Assaf. Hamas on Tuesday criticized Egypt for closing the Gaza border with Sinai, calling it a "crime against humanity." The siege has led to power outages.
The Fatah spokesman claimed that while Gaza is one of the poorest
places in the world, there are 1,700 millionaires among Hamas members,
hinting that the terror group imposes steep taxes on its citizens for
goods entering from Egypt and Israel, and that this money finds its way
into Hamas officials' pockets.
Assaf finished by praising Abbas, the "Palestinian President," for
standing behind his principles and treating any concessions in peace
talks as red lines. The spokesman stated Hamas had returned the
situation to the way it was before 1967, a somewhat confusing remark,
given that it was in 1967 that the Jordanian occupation of Judea and
Samaria came to an end, in the Six Day War.
Israel won't lift Gaza blockade for sake of restoring relations with Turkey
You kind of knew this would be the answer. The government of Israel says that it will not lift its 'blockade,' which is keeping these 'poor' Gazans millionaires, in order to restore relations with Turkey.
Lifting the blockade on Gaza to improve relations with Turkey is not
on the agenda, diplomatic sources in Jerusalem said Wednesday,
responding to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s making this a condition for ending the Mavi Marmara saga.
The
issue of easing the blockade has not been on the table in the talks
with the Turks to come to an agreement that would normalize ties
between the two erstwhile allies, and will not be on the table in the
future, the sources said.
One government official said that the naval blockade of Gaza was a fundamental national security issue.
Erdogan said at a press conference Tuesday that the talks on compensation to the families of the nine Turks killed in the Mavi Marmara
incident “have not concluded,” and that “in the final stages there
will be a need to include a clause in the protocol that calls for the
lifting of the siege on Gaza.”
Frequent reports over the past two weeks in the Turkish press indicated an imminent deal on compensation payments,
a deal that – coupled with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s apology
to Erdogan for operative errors that may have caused the loss of life
in the incident – would lead to a renewal of full ties. A Turkish
delegation was here just over a week ago for discussions on the matter.
Erdogan’s remarks took much of the air out of the reports, just two days after his Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a television interview that the sides were as close as ever to reaching an agreement.
Bye, bye Turkey. Sorry we wasted so much time on this.
Erdogan nixes rapprochement between Turkey and Israel
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has in effect killed any chance of a rapprochement between Israel and Turkey by demanding that Israel commit to lifting its 'blockade' on Gaza as a condition to restoring relations.
"The compensation talks on behalf of the victims of the Mavi Marmara,
which are taking place between Ankara and Jerusalem, have not
concluded," Erdogan said. "In the final stages, there will be a need to
include a clause in the protocol that calls for the lifting of the siege
on Gaza."
The premier's statements were all the more surprising
given that just two days ago his foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, was
quoted as saying that Turkey and Israel are as close as they have been yet to ending the long-running saga over the Mavi Marmara incident.
This isn't about the Turkish 'victims' and it never has been. It's about Erdogan doing his share to extirpate the Jewish state, and it's about his showing how powerful he is. Well, maybe that horse can once again show him a thing or two.
Knesset members heckled and then walked out on a speech in the Knesset chamber by European Parliament President Martin Schulz on Wednesday after Schulz repeated as fact 'Palestinian' claims regarding denial of water and the 'blockade' on Gaza. To add insult to injury, Schulz spoke in German.
Schulz condemned Israeli “settlements” east of the 1949 armistice
line as “an obstacle to peace,” and claimed, “The blockade of Gaza
creates despair and extremism.”
MKs reacted with anger. “The president of the European parliament, a
son of the German nation, is unashamed to quote lies he heard yesterday
in Ramallah,” MK Motti Yogev (Jewish Home) accused.
Yogev burst into Schulz’s speech, saying the EU parliamentary head
had “chutzpah” for “supporting the Palestinians who are inciting to
destroy Israel, 70 years after the Holocaust.”
Both claims Schulz cited are false, he said. Israeli Jews and
Palestinian Arabs living in Judea and Samaria get equal amounts of
water. “Regarding the ‘blockade’ on Gaza, Israel has not been in Gaza
for some time, and Israel is the one that supplies the Palestinians in
Gaza with food and with the concrete they use against Israel,” he said.
Minister of Economy Naftali Bennett expressed outrage over Schulz’s
claims as well. “We will not be silent in the face of lies,” he said.
Culture Minister Limor Livnat and Minister of Pensioners Affairs Uri
Orbach criticized Schulz as well. Jewish Home MKs ultimately walked out
of Schulz’s speech.
JPost adds that Jewish Home party chairman and Economics and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett has demanded that Schulz apologize.
Bennett and the entire Bayit Yehudi faction walked out in the middle of
Schulz's speech, with several MKs yelling "Palestinians are liars" and
"shame."
"When he said Palestinians get 17 liters of water for every 70
Israelis get, it was a total lie. It's preposterous," Bennett told The Jerusalem Post after
the Bayit Yehudi walk-out. "All the ministers were perplexed. I stayed
quiet at first, but then he criticized the Israeli blockade on Gaza and
said it caused pain to the Gazans."
"Did he forget that we
expelled 8,000 Jews from Gaza? This week I worked on helping the
evacuees. Did he forget that [Gazans] shoot thousands of missiles at us?
And then he criticizes us about the very place we vacated?" Bennett
asked.
The minister demanded that Schulz "take back his lies," and
called for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to make the same demand.
"Our
national honor as the State of Israel isn't mine or the ministers'. It
belongs to all of the people of Israel," he stated. "I won't sit in the
Knesset and hear a European, certainly not a German, saying such
things."
The Bayit Yehudi leader said that when he noticed no one
else was protesting, he instructed his faction to walk out quietly,
though some only listened to the first part.
According to Bennett, the Bayit Yehudi were "the only ones who stood up for our national honor."
"I
thought Schulz would express the EU's regular criticism about Israel in
the West Bank. He started out speaking nicely about the Holocaust, he
showed a lot of empathy. He spoke about the importance of peace, and I
get it, he's not in the Bayit Yehudi," Bennett recounted. "We can accept
criticism, but we cannot live with lies."
The Bayit Yehudi leader
pointed out that Schulz quoted Edmund Burke as saying "the only thing
necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
"He could criticize us, even sharply, but to tell lies and expect me to be quiet? It won't happen," Bennett stated.
Although they didn't walk out, other MK's also ripped Schulz.
Immediately after Schulz departed, Culture Minister Limor Livnat took the stand to say his words were "a vulgar lie."
"Schulz
told lies in German, and it's unfortunate someone can speak German in
this house, but it is our responsibility to stand up against it,"
Pensioners' Affairs Minister Uri Orbach said. "The generation of
Schulz's parents and the generation of the Arab MKs' parents
collaborated to destroy the Jews."
Gaza's only power plant ground to a halt again on Friday, only 12
days after being brought back online following a 7 week shutdown due to
fuel shortages. The shutdown was announced by Gaza's electricity firm,
reports AFP.
An official of the company claimed "the plant stopped working on
Friday morning due to a lack of fuel caused by Israel's closure of the
Kerem Shalom crossing." He added that electricity would now be supplied
for only 6 hours a day instead of the normal 12.
While officials from the territory's Islamist rulers were quick to
blame Israel, in reality Egypt is largely involved after having shut
down the tunnels into the Sinai that were used to illegally smuggle
fuel. Gaza's power plant was initially shut down on November 1 under the
Egyptian siege.
Egypt has accused the Hamas terrorist organization which rules Gaza
of promoting terror in Egypt through the Muslim Brotherhood, which it is
an offshoot of. Hamas denies the charges, although Egypt is continuing to act against the terror group.
As for the Kerem Shalom crossing, it reportedly was closed Tuesday after Gaza terrorists fatally shot an
IDF civilian worker. The crossing had been used to deliver fuel
purchased from Israel by the Palestinian Authority, using money donated
by Qatar.
'Palestinians' blame Israel for Gaza coastal flooding
Thousands of 'Palestinians' were evacuated from their homes in Northern Gaza on Saturday due to flood waters that reached up to two meters high.
Flooding has been so severe that access to many homes is by rowing boat
and water is reported to be two meters (more than six feet) high in some
places. Many people have been trapped inside inundated homes by rising
waters.
The flooding is the result of four days of torrential rains.
"Large
swathes of northern Gaza are a disaster area with water as far as the
eye can see," the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) that
administers refugee camps in the Palestinian territory, said in a
statement.
The Gaza health ministry said 100 people had suffered
injuries in the severe weather, which damaged poorly built homes in the
coastal territory, including from car accidents on flooded roads, and
items falling from inundated buildings.
Chris Gunness, an UNRWA spokesman, said areas near a refugee camp in
northern Gaza "have become a massive lake with two-meter-high waters
engulfing homes and stranding thousands."

Gaza's 1.8 million people has also been enduring around 12-hour
blackouts daily since the lone power plant was switched off last month
due to a fuel shortage.
Israel opened a main crossing with Gaza on Friday to allow in fuel supplies and four water pumps to help relieve flood damage.
You would think that with all the billions of dollars that the 'international community' has pumped into the 'impoverished coastal community' someone would have done some flood planning. But no.... Instead, they're blaming Israel.
The Gaza government's Disaster Response Committee announced late Friday
that Israeli authorities had opened up dams just east of the Gaza Strip,
flooding numerous residential areas in nearby villages within the
coastal territory.
Committee chairman Yasser Shanti said in a
press conference that Israeli authorities had opened up dams just to the

The Gaza Strip is
currently under a state of emergency due to severe weather conditions
caused by a historic storm front moving south across the Levant.

One of the most basic functions of government is to ensure proper drainage in the streets. It's precisely the type of function in which the 'Palestinians' take no interest. Instead, they just blame Israel for all of their problems.
