Likud voting extended until midnight, another day may be added

The Likud party primary vote has been extended until midnight, the Likud Central Election Committee decided Sunday evening, due to issues with electronic polling machines. However, it was still possible that an additional voting day would be added.

Likud primary voting got off to a rough start Sunday morning with electronic voting machines throughout the country suffering outages and problems. Technicians were working to fix the problem.

"It's very frustrating," said Balaclav Polina, a Likud member who had been waiting to vote since polling stations opened at 9:00 a.m.. "There hasn't been this big a mess in the past."

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu cast his own ballot Sunday morning in Givat Ze'ev and called on the Likud’s 125,351 members to vote in the tight primary race, while activists released lists of recommended candidates in light of Operation Pillar of Defense and the security situation in the South.

Seemingly acknowledging the voting problems, Netanyahu said he voted without any issues.

A representative for Amanet, the company responsible for the primary logistics and voting machines, declined to comment on the problems Sunday. The employee responsible for computerization of voting was in meetings, an Amanet representative said.
