Olmert reads the writing on the wall
A court may have acquitted him, but even Ehud K. Olmert understands that most Israelis wanted him out of the Prime Minister's chair long before he resigned. In fact, a current poll says that 70% of Israelis want Olmert to stay out of politics. And so, for now at least, Ehud K. Olmert is not coming back. "I want to calm all those who are worrying. I have no intention of getting into political activity. I am not involved and do not intend to become involved," Olmert said at a Tel Aviv University speech.In the same speech, Olmert also found a way to blame others - yet again - for the results of the Second Lebanon War.
Reaffirming himself as a Kadima man, Olmert asked that his name not be dragged into things he has no intention of associating with. The comment was a reference to a Haaretz report that he intended to team up with Yair Lapid, a report Lapid also denied on Thursday.

A Channel 10 television survey whose results were aired on Wednesday found that 70 percent of the public would oppose him re-entering politics, with only 22% in support.

I didn't want him in there, and I was just a tourist! I also don't want Condoleeza Rice anywhere near a action deciding position. Summer '06 - civilians *forced* by those two to sit under warcrime rocketfire, with no response. Your jets did damage to Hezbollah up in southern Beirut, but along the Leb/Israel border... they were afraid of hurting civilians among which the rocketeers were embedded. And the IDF ground guys, apparently while lacking drinking water, went in a few feet, came back out, went in, came out... with Condi on the phone wheedling, "Don't you believe in diplomacy? Don't you believe in whirld peas?" All the while, Condi crying for Hezbollah, while Israeli civilians were rocketed. So NO OLMERT. And NO CONDI RICE. (Remember, Condi equates the Palestinians with the southern U.S. civil rights marchers. MLK would CROAK!)
