Iran denies being behind Thailand blasts

Despite the fact that the bombs in Thailand were remarkably similar to those used in India and Georgia on Monday (Hat Tip: Will), and despite the fact that two Iranian nationals have been arrested in connection with Tuesday's blasts in Thailand, Iran denies that it is involved in any of the three sets of bombings that were carried out this week.
Iran denied any role in bomb blasts in Thailand and accused Israel of being behind the explosions, state TV quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying on Wednesday.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that elements of the Zionist regime are responsible for these terrorist acts," Mehmanparast said, referring to Israel.

Asked whether the explosives used in India and Thailand were the same, a senior Thai security official said they both had the same "magnetic sheets".

"The individual was in possession of the same magnets and we are currently examining the source of the magnet," National Security Council Secretary Wichian Podphosri said.

A man carrying an Iranian passport lost a leg when a bomb he was carrying in Bangkok went off on Tuesday after an earlier explosion, apparently accidental, at a house he was renting. His second leg had to be amputated.

Police said he had been charged with illegal possession of explosives, causing explosions, attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.

A senior Thai official said Wednesday that Iranian suspects detained over the failed attack aimed to assassinate Israeli diplomats, AFP reported.

"These three Iranian men are an assassination team and their targets were Israeli diplomats including the ambassador," AFP quoted the intelligence official as saying. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official added that "their plan was to attach bombs to diplomats' cars."
I think everyone understands that Iran is behind this.

Lest anyone forget, one of Israel's wars was begun in response to the attempted assassination of an Israeli diplomat. Iran is playing with fire.

Mainstream media in Canada, noting that the magnet bombs are very similar to the ones Israel is suspected of using, asks: "Would Iran really risk good relations with India by car-bombing them?"

I wonder, is it really assumed that Iran did it or can people not help themselves from wanting to believe Iran's side of the story?
