Tisha b'Av 5770

Monday night is Tisha b'Av, the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av, the date on which we mark the destruction of both Temples.

Here's a brief video about Tisha b'Av.

Let's go to the videotape.

Tisha b'Av is like Yom Kippur in some ways - we refrain from eating, drinking, washing, wearing leather shoes, putting on cosmetics and marital relations.

Until mid-day on Tuesday, we act like mourners in the seven-day period after a close relative dies. We sit on the floor and not on chairs. We do not greet each other. We do not do productive work. Men do not put on Tefillin until the afternoon.

I am scheduling posts, but at some point they will run out. Once they run out, I will be back mid-afternoon on Tuesday Israel time (early morning US time).
