US media too stupid to understand Middle East issues says...

... would you believe Bill Maher?

Let's go to the videotape.

Daled Amos provides some direct answers to Rachel Maddow's question "Who speaks out publicly in a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israeli way in mainstream American politics, or media?" here.

Bill Maher has been on this track for a while. I think it has been an education for him. A year ago you would hear him cite progressive views almost reflexively. I was surprised a month or ago to hear him take the Israeli side (I forgot the issue). This was quite a strong statement, and even stronger when you consider his audience.

Before that segment he interviewed Queen Noor and basically held her over the coals. Now, Noor is beautiful, from Santa Monica, almost like a latter day Grace of Monaco (i.e., a beautiful American woman in the royal family). Maher asked her why have a royal family? Isn't it a throwback? He then went on about Palestinians and said isn't Jordan a Palestinian state? And then he asked her (all very politely, of course) why when Jordan controlled the West Bank, if Palestinian independence was so important, why didn't Jordan make it a country then?

He didn't press her hard on these issues. I wouldn't have expected him to; that's not his style, which goes from nasty to light. But it looks like for the moment, Maher has understood many of the issues regarding Israel. (He said a lot more and has on other occasions.)
