Goldstone to attend grandson's Bar Mitzva
A compromise has been reached that will allow South African judge Richard Richard Goldstone to attend his grandson's Bar Mitzva in Johannesburg.Following a meeting of community leaders last Friday, the SA Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) said that an agreement was reached according to which no protests would mar the bar mitzva ceremony, but that Goldstone himself would attend a community gathering in which complaints about his controversial report would be aired and he would be given an opportunity to respond. And that session with Goldstone afterward will likely be completely non-substantive and evasive.
No date has been set for the meeting, but it will happen “shortly after” the bar mitzva, according to SAJBD national director Wendy Kahn.
“The community is very upset about the Goldstone Report,” she explained. “They thought it was unfair, biased and deeply flawed. And several community leaders have come out against it, mentioning specific issues with it.”
...
But in the wake of the discussions between community leaders and with Goldstone himself, the SAJBD issued a statement Sunday asking that "all parties immediately desist all public activities on this matter so that the young man’s bar mitzva celebration can be returned to the privacy and dignity that it deserves."
"I am delighted that I will attend the bar mitzva of my grandson," Goldstone said following the agreement, according to the SAJBD.
What could go wrong?

Shame on this. Heinous actions demand strict consequence. They sully the synagogue with his attendance. For shame.
Is he confusing the Amish clothing with Chassidishe garb? :-)
Stupid Jews make sure there are no consequences for betraying one's own people.
Its as business as usual nach Goldstone.
What could go wrong indeed
carl,
here is the prob.
goldstone, despite reports, was never placed into cherem...he was just told that people at the shul would be upset if he showed up, and the zosa had threatened to hold a protest at the shul (big mistake)
then the chief rabbi of sa came out and said that while he finds what goldstone did to be a shanda, he (the rav) believes in the concept of "open synagogues"
the people of sa turned the whole thing into a political disagreement...which it is not
but you cant keep someone out of shul just because you disagree with their politics...so he gets to see his grandson be barmitzvahed
look, the neturai karta are evil bufoons, but it took their actions of attending a holocaust denier conference in iran, and a picture of them embracing the evil one to finally get them placed into cherem
the argument against what goldstone did must not be placed in political terms...it must be made in what it actually was...that he consciously conspired to see to the deaths of fellow jews
then, he must be placed into cherem and be shunned by the community
