'Palestinians' construct snipers' nest over Gilo
Many of you may recall how the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo came under sniper fire from the Bethlehem suburbs of Beit Jallah and Beit Sahour during the early days of the Oslo Terror War in late 2000. Now, through illegal construction, the 'Palestinians' are attempting to get a clearer shot at Gilo. Will Israel enforce the law and demolish the building under construction? Will the Obama administration protest Israel's 'cruel destruction of 'Palestinian' homes' yet again? A massive, illegally built structure [see picture. CiJ] being put up by Palestinian Authority Arabs has frightened residents of the Jerusalem neighborhood Har Gilo in recent weeks. The building has been built on Israeli land belonging to the city, and looms over local houses.And since the Fatah conference has been extended 'indefinitely,' can we now expect that construction will continue indefinitely too?
The building's height and location have created fears that it could be used for sniping or other attacks. Residents of Gilo suffered near-constant sniper attacks during the outbreak of the Oslo War, also known as the Second Intifada.
Following appeals from Israeli officials in the Gush Etzion region, the Civil Administration issued an order halting work on the structure until a hearing regarding the legal status of the building. However, work at the site has continued despite the order.
Residents of Har Gilo say Civil Administration officials told them that the order could not be enforced due to the Fatah conference currently taking place in the nearby city of Bethlehem.
And another double standard:
The Regevim organization has filed an appeal with Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, asking him to look into discrimination against Jews when it comes to enforcement of building codes in “Area C” -- parts of Judea and Samaria that are under full Israeli control under agreements between Israel and the PA.Time to enforce the building codes. More than usual, our lives may depend upon it.
When a Jew is found to have built a structure in Area C without approval, the structure is demolished almost immediately, the group argues. However, when a PA Arab builds illegally in the same area, any subsequent demolition order is protested with help from leftist groups, and a lengthy court case commences.
It often takes years until illegal Arab homes are finally destroyed, while in the meantime, the builders benefit from having broken the law by living rent-free on Israeli land, petitioners argue. Due to the time-intensive nature of the process, the Civil Administration has not bothered to issue demolition orders for thousands of illegal Arab buildings, they say, knowing that the buildings will not be destroyed in any case.

Why don't you provide Mayor Bareket's email address and phone number so that citizens make their concerns known? He's their elected official. He should be pressured to carry out the law.

Good luck with that. The AG and SC run the show in Israel. They are responsible for the abject cravenness demonstrated by Israel's leaders when it comes to asserting Jewish land rights in the country. Fail to toe the leftist line -- Sharon, Olmert, Bibi -- and you will be litigated to death.
This is not a building. It's a tragedy under construction. The American administration will not be happy until Jews lose their lives and Israeli politicians will wait until that happens to mollify the Americans. Action now would have political repercussions. Action later will likely have material repercussions - measured in blood.
FinanceDoc is correct. I'm not holding my breath waiting for leftists in Israel's law enforcement and security establishment to begin enforcing the law on Arabs any time soon.
