Susan Rice compares US human rights record to Cuba's and Saudi Arabia's

Maybe she was just channeling her boss.

Cabinet-level ambassador to the United Nations compared the human rights record of the United States to that of Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and Cameroon on Tuesday, while commenting on the United States' 'victory' in Tuesday's election to the United Nations' 'Human Rights Council.'
“We have not been perfect ourselves,” said Susan E. Rice, the American ambassador, after the United States got 167 votes out of 192. “But we intend to lead based on the strong principled vision that the American people have about respecting human rights, supporting democracy.”
Following Rice's lead, UN 'Human Rights Commissioner' Navi Pillay, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the final declaration at Durban II would at least re-affirm the anti-Israel agenda of Durban I, said that the 'Human Rights Council' is not a 'club of the virtuous,' but that American membership would make it 'more useful.' And Neil Hicks, international director for Human Rights First, made the astounding claim that 'only a minority' of the countries on the Council have 'poor' human rights records, as if that's good news.

In the original Council 25 of the 47 members were rated "free" by Freedom House, which means that 47% were "partly free" or "not free." Cuba, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia and Cameroon are all "not free" and were re-elected on Tuesday. The Times notes that
Others elected to the council on Tuesday were Bangladesh, Djibouti, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritius, Mexico, Nigeria, Senegal and Uruguay.
Bangladesh, Djibouti, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria are rated 'partly free.'

Mauritius, Mexico, Senegal and Uruguay are rated 'free.'

So is the United States.
