Daily Kos tries to have a civilized discussion about Israel

It was a noble effort to have a civilized discourse about the 'Israel/Palestine question' on one of the blogosphere's most left-leaning blogs.
So here is my experiment: Let's use this diary to see if we can have a discussion in which we listen to each other's voices and actually try to achieve some perspective. If you feel you cannot do this, please don't post a comment, or maybe one to excuse yourself from the discussion. Call it a dare if you like; I think it is worth trying. If we can do this, maybe there is hope for peace.
And the denizens of Daily Kos voted with their feet - or rather with their keyboards. At this writing, more than nine hours after the thread was posted, there are a grand total of eleven comments (which is nothing for a blog of Kos' size), of which four might be described as substantive.

Not much hope for 'peace,' is there?

There's no such thing as Palestine. Even the Israeli Left knew it in the days when they were still Zionists.
