Jewish community in Yemen

I have no idea what brought this on, but CNN did a report that was posted to the web on Friday about the Jewish community in Yemen. The Yemenite Jewish community, which has a very rich and ancient heritage, mostly lives in Israel these days with smaller pockets in the US and in London. But the small community just outside of Sana very strongly keeps to its traditions, as you will see in this video. I fear that this community may reach a bad end - God forbid - unless it leaves Yemen soon.

Let's go to the videotape (Hat Tip: NYNana who found it after CNN removed the original).

Carl,

I was so furious that YouTube removed it for absolutely no apparent reason, that quickly, that I did some (you should pardon the expression) Googling.

Thanks for the hat tip.

It is like looking into an unknown world. I also pray that they leave while they still can.

Great video, thanks. It is small wonder that You tube would pull it, they seem to be entirely too sympathetic to muslim issues. The only problem I had with it was the reporter's observation(4:05) that Operation Magic Carpet "brought them to a new Jewish homeland, the State of Israel". I might be taking it wrong, but the way she phrased it made it sound like Judaism had just arrived in Israel.

The Yemenite Hebrew is believed to be close to the original Hebrew spoken by the Jews. Ofra Haza's folk music shows the extent to which Jews of Yemen have affected the Jewish people. And let's pray for the remnant to return soon to Eretz Israel!
