US won't let Israel attack Iran?
Professor Anthony Cordesman, a former Pentagon official and currently a defense analyst at ABC TV, said Monday that the United States will not let Israel attack Iran.Cordesman was speaking during a meeting with Israeli defense analysts held by the Institute of National Security Studies. He said IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi was notified of the United States' stance regarding Iran by Admiral Michael Mullen, the top uniformed US Army officer, during Mullen's visit here at the end of June.'Israeli officials' have confirmed that Cordesman's statement 'reflects the tone' of current US policy. I don't doubt it. But here's what I do doubt.
The US opted at this point to stick to the diplomatic track in its efforts to keep Iran from going nuclear, and has made clear to Israel that it shouldn't attack Iran without White House approval, Cordesman said.
He added that the current US policy is likely to remain unchanged at least until the next US president is sworn in.I don't believe that. The Bush administration doesn't want an Israeli attack on Iran now, because they fear that it would hurt John Sidney McCain's election prospects. But if Barack Hussein Obama is - God forbid - elected in November, you can bet that the 'military option' against Iran will be item 1 on the table for the remaining two months of the Bush administration. And even if McCain is elected, he may find it easier to have the Bush administration deal with it rather than having to do it himself. Especially if he finds himself confronted with a more Democratic-dominated Congress than the current one.
And it's not just US neocons and right-thinking Israelis who believe that. Iran believes it too.
The lady doth protest too much, don't you think?“The first bullet fired by America at Iran will be followed by Iran burning down its vital interests around the globe,” the students news agency ISNA quoted Ali Shirazi as saying in a speech to Revolutionary Guards. …
“The Zionist regime is pressuring White House officials to attack Iran. If they commit such a stupidity, Tel Aviv and U.S. shipping in the Persian Gulf will be Iran’s first targets and they will be burned,” Shirazi was quoted as saying.
Shirazi, a mid-level cleric, is Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s representative to the Revolutionary Guards.
“The Iranian nation will never accept bullying. The Iranian nation is a nation of believers which believes in jihad and martyrdom. No army in the world can confront it,” he added.
The bottom line reason why the US and Israel will likely have to confront Iran militarily at some point in the future is this pointed out by Captain Ed.
The best option we have is to get the Iranians to throw out the mullahcracy on their own. If we can’t do that, then we have few choices left — and we cannot afford to have a nuclear-armed Iran that sponsors terrorism around the world. We can't either. And when we get to the point where the sanctions are useless and Iran is about to go nuclear - which point is rapidly arriving - something is going to have to be done to stop them.

events will drive israel or america to act...
iran is on a non-stop path to regional domination and no one will stop them from their plans...
so it really doesnt matter if America "allows" israel to attack iran, Iran WILL do something that is an act of war against Israel or America, or Italy, Germany, France, Iraq, Arabia, Pakistan.......
One could even argue that Iran KEEPS doing casus belli and the world is ignoring it...
from the Iranian take over of British boats, to placing a militia in lebanon and causing the destruction of Lebanon as a functioning state...
from taking over the US embassy in 1978, to kidnappings all over the globe...
it's only a matter of time when iran goes to far, since iran really thinks it CAN do what ever it wishes...
from public statements and diatribes and forums advocating the destruction of both the big and little satan iran WILL go to far..
now it's creating nukes, it's murdering it's citizens, it's causing trouble on all it's borders...
it's a matter of when not if Israel or the USA RESPONDS to the casus belli of the moment
It's pointless for us to speculate here about what America will or won't do. Remember that, in any case, HaShem runs the world and the primary job of Jews inside and outside Israel is to make ourselves fit to receive His chesed and protection. That is something practical we can each do with our time without a crystal ball.
Its the politics, stupid!
.......HaShem runs the world and the primary job of Jews inside and outside Israel is to make ourselves fit to receive His chesed and protection.
Maybe HaShem seeks us to use our will, minds and strength to FIGHT evil not simply to be pawns in a giant chess set
