Zachary Tennen said two college-aged males asked if he was Jewish and when he answered yes, the two men assaulted him. Zachary told police the two men then “stapled me in the back side of my bottom teeth, starting in my gums and going upwards.”
Tennen, a journalism sophomore who loves basketball, is recovering from his injuries, but he had this to say.
“I’m really, really upset in a few ways,” Zachary Tennen said. “First of all it is a terrible experience, physically and also mentally to know someone would do something like this,” he said before his surgery, despite the difficulties for him to talk.

East Lansing Police appear to be skeptical and are denying that this was a hate crime. They were not nearly as reticent when it came to a burnt Koran left outside the Islamic Center of East Lansing.
The East Lansing Police Department is seeking the publics help to find who is responsible for burning and desecrating a Koran. The incident happened on September 11. It was found at the front door of the Islamic Center of East Lansing. The department is offering $10,000 for any information that would lead to the identification and prosecution of those responsible for this act.
It would appear that a burnt Koran merits a $10,000 reward, but a beaten Jewish college student can be safely ignored by the East Lansing Police.
Michigan is sounding more and more like a country in Europe.
The incident took place in Chanighot area of Bahawalpur on Tuesday evening. Residents saw a man allegedly throwing pages from the Holy Quran onto the street. Local police took him into custody and put him in the lockup.
The news spread like a forest fire in the neighbourhood – and soon a frenzied mob gathered outside the Chanighot police station baying for blood.
Police couldn’t stand up to the furious and violent crowd who got hold of the alleged blasphemer, described by one police official as deranged, and brutally tortured him.
Some officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse the mob – but the emotionally charged people refused to hand over the alleged blasphemer and instead turned against the police officers, according to Ghulam Mohiuddin Gujjar, the station house officer (SHO) of Chanighot police station.
Nine police officers, including SHO Gujjar and DSP Rana Naveed Mumtaz, were injured while trying – though unsuccessfully – to rescue the man.
The mob burnt down several police vehicles, including DSP Mumtaz’s four-wheeler, before getting hold of the man, who has not been identified.
Once the unidentified man was in the mob’s custody, he was dragged to the Chanighot Chakar (roundabout), where he had allegedly desecrated the Holy Quran, doused him in petrol and set him on fire.
SHO Gujjar said they have registered two FIRs against 1,500-2,000 people.
This is the country to which Hillary Clinton delivered an apology earlier this week. Deranged. But probably not a whole lot more deranged than many other countries in the Muslim world. What could go wrong?
US Department of Defense giving 'sensitivity training' on handling the Koran
Just when you thought that the US couldn't become any more dhimmified, it's happening again. The US Department of Defense is giving 'sensitivity training' on handling the Koran (Hat Tip: Will).
The U.S. Government would make a lousy parent. Imagine you've got two children. One is well behaved, the other is a spoiled brat. You go to the grocery store, and both kids ask for candy. You tell them both "No." The good child accepts your decision and stands quietly. The other child throws himself on the floor, kicking and screaming, flailing around, breaking things, convulsing with rage. Should you give the spoiled child what he demands? According to the Department of Defense, you should. Whoever throws the biggest tantrum gets whatever he wants. The message we've just sent the world is crystal clear: Go on a killing spree, and we will submit.
Here's the latest Qur'an sensitivity training from the Department of Defense. I think I would title the program "Fun with Sharia." (H/T Atlas Shrugs.)
Krauthammer asks when Muslim nations will apologize to the US
I'm sure many of you have heard that American soldiers in Afghanistan 'improperly disposed' of some Korans last week (they burned them), that the US issued a groveling apology, and that at least two American soldiers have been murdered as a result.
Charles Krauthammer asks a good question: When will the Islamic nations apologize to the United States?
This very issue was addressed a few weeks ago in a Newsweek cover story titled “The War on Christians.” Writer Ayaan Hirsi Ali accused Western media outlets of participating in a “conspiracy of silence surrounding this violent expression of religious intolerance,” though she did admit the silence may be due to a fear of fanning the flames and creating a larger conflict in the region.
I'm with Krauthammer and Carlson on this. ONE apology - preferably not from the President - is appropriate because the United States as a matter of policy does not burn Korans (or Bibles or any other books for that matter). The repeated apologies - going all the way up to the President - are nothing but groveling. And the violence ought to be put down just like it's put down when non-Muslims are violent.
But the President who is so proud that 'my middle name is Hussein' isn't capable of seeing or doing that. He knows one way - and one way only - of relating to Muslims. Groveling appeasement.
This seven-and-a-half minute long video shows the two men, their faces obscured, holding the Muslim holy book and reading prepared statements. They say that Arabs have foisted this book and their homelands and because of it they have gone backwards for 1400 years. They say they dislike the Koran and want it to disappear, adding "Viva freedom!"
Let's go to the videotape.
The truth is that I doubt this is going to rile up the Muslim world as much as the video I showed last night. There are three reasons for that - none of which have anything to do with the bacon. First, Muslims burn Korans all the time because they attack each other's mosques. Second, Muslims find it much more infuriating for 'infidels' to burn the Koran than for Muslims. Third, I don't believe most Iranians are really that religious. In Iran, Islam is more of a political thing - and I think a lot of Persians resent it like these men (one of whom is Afghani) do.
Will they be caught? Three people know who they are - the two burners and the filmmaker. No, I doubt they'll be caught.
But let's hope that like the Tunisian who self-immolated that this is the start of something big.
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004.
