US issues travel warning for Golan Heights

The US State Department has issued a travel advisory for the Golan Heights.
The U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem advises U.S. citizens that due to fighting between Syrian opposition forces and the Syrian military in the central portion of the Disengagement Zone in the Golan Heights near the Syrian town of Qunaitra, travel on route 98 in the Golan Heights or any road or point east of route 98 is off limits for all U.S. Government personnel for the next 72 hours. U.S. Government personnel have also been instructed to maintain a heightened security awareness. http://www.oref.org.il/International/14-en/PAKAR.aspx.

U.S. citizens are advised to defer non-essentialtravel to and within the Golan Heights and to exercise an extra measure of caution.

Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities.
