Stupid bureaucrats cause closure of Ammunition Hill

Ammunition Hill, the site of the key battle for Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, has been closed down - apparently because the State Comptroller decided that they could not charge admission fees.
Since the state comptroller forbade the site from collecting entrance fees two years ago, it has struggled financially.

Ammunition Hill is classified as a government site, and therefore must be open to the public free of charge.

Approximately 200,000 people visit each year, including 80,000 soldiers, Katri Maoz, the director of Ammunition Hill said Sunday. The NIS 15 tickets formerly allowed the site to maintain a museum, amphitheater, events hall, educational center, several memorials and an interactive light show. Maoz said it needs NIS 2 million a year to operate, but the Defense Ministry only budgeted NIS 910,000 for 2012.
And with the IDF saying that it has no money for drills or missiles, we can't take any more money from there either.

Maybe we can take money from the State Comptroller's budget.

But look at the bright side, fellow Israelis: Every 3 and 4-year old in North Tel Aviv can go to Kindergarten for free in the fall, so his Mommy can go play tennis. Call Daphne Leef and thank her!

That was quick.

Unbearably sad and pathetic. No one would mind a decent charge to go there. Heck, they charge for every other hing in the country, every national park etc. A few shekels to keep it open and take kids to see it and so understand why (among a million other reasons) that Jerusalem cannot be divided in any way shape or form...c'mon. Utterly insane.

I happen to also think that kids should be taken to the Golan and see the many memorials there to those that fell in '67 and '73. The smaller and unofficial monuments saddened me but meant a great deal...once the country forgets who fought and why, it's over. It's happened here in the U.S too, as the Left purposefully denigrates or tries to completely forget the Founders and the American Revolution (which was NOT a revolution that went leftist as the Russian or French ones did, and gave freedom instead of leftist tyranny that was worse than what was replaced).
