IDF preparing to hit Gaza?

Is there another Operation Cast Lead in the not-too-distant future? The IDF is thinking about it.
On Saturday night, the Israel Air Force bombed a number of targets in the Strip in response to the firing of a number of Grad-model Katyusha rockets into Israel. One landed in Beersheba on Saturday. In another attack, an RPG was fired at an IDF patrol along the border with Gaza.

“There is no need to wait for a provocation to launch an offensive against terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip,” a senior officer in the Southern Command explained. “The ongoing attacks – by rockets and along the border – are cumulatively more than enough to justify immediate action.”

...

The debate within the IDF is whether it needs to wait for a successful attack by Gaza terrorists – be it a rocket attack that causes casualties or a successful cross border attack – or if the sporadic rocket fire is enough of a justification to launch an operation today.
The 'debate' is absurd. Running to shelters all the time is something no other country in the world would tolerate. We have to wait for someone to be killed, God forbid?

In the meantime, the IDF has deployed Iron Dome around Tel Aviv.
"Iron Dome is being incorporated into the heart of the Israeli military. As part of this process, the system is deployed in different sites and will be in the Gush Dan region (of Tel Aviv) in the coming days," he said in a statement that clarified the deployment would begin on Monday.

This deployment "is part of the annual training plan for this system", he added.

The decision to site an Iron Dome battery at Tel Aviv comes amid heightened regional tensions and speculation about a possible Israeli attack targeting Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

Israel has denied that a decision has been taken to launch a pre-emptive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Is it just me or is anyone else left wondering from that story whether we got a third battery or whether this is one of the existing ones being redeployed? Hmmm.

By the way, the JPost story linked above also mentions Iron Dome and is no more clear about whether this is a new battery.

Hi Carl.
From INN "Postponed Israel-U.S. Drill to be Held in October".Ma’ariv reported that the postponement was initiated by Israel and was agreed upon by the Americans.Ma’ariv also noted that in preparation for the drill, U.S. military officers will arrive in Israel next week. About 3,000 U.S. soldiers are expected to arrive in Israel to take part in the large-scale exercise.Would they come bearing 'gifts'?

Well, the IDF has done a good job getting Israel (and the rest of us) familiarized with the concept of close range rocket defense. Now it is time for them to go back into the baracks and plan out of sight. Saying it is because of budgets is as good a public excuse as any (and hopefully is not really the case, although it may be!). If action is coming, the enemy shouldn't know how many, where placed, technological capabilities and shortfalls, etc. Hopefully, they'll keep upgrading and hopefully they are teamed up with the U.S. on the development still.
