'If Egypt changes the treaty, there may not be any more'

Dan Meridor, the most left-leaning member of Prime Minister Netanyahu's inner circle, told a press conference sponsored by The Israel Project on Monday night that if Egypt unilaterally changes the Camp David Treaty, Israel will question whether other treaties should be signed in the future with Arab countries.
While it's not clear from the article whether Meridor was stating fact or advocating such a position, my sense is that he was stating fact. If Cairo unilaterally decides to alter the peace treaty with Jerusalem, Israel will ask why sign agreements with other neighbors if these accords are not kept, Intelligence Agencies Minister Dan Meridor said Monday.

Meridor, speaking at a press conference organized by The Israel Project, said that "objectively" there is no reason for either Israel or Egypt to change the peace agreement that has served both sides for more than 30 years.

"If people are rational and act for the good of their country, both Israel and Egypt should keep the agreement," Meridor said. Meridor added that Israel has had no contact with Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, the party that won the recent parliamentary elections there.
Well, no kidding. But the problem is that if that happens, Israel has already given back all the land it had liberated from Egypt in 1967 and 1973. The Egyptians may not even care.

If I were an Israeli govt official, I would be saying that the established precedents outlined in this 30 year old peace treaty cannot be vacated by one side. And that Israel will not release Egypt from the terms (e.g. demilitarized Sinai, etc.). The agreement is signed by all sides and Israel does not agree with ending the treaty. Really, if they do that, the U.S. should demand return of all the military equipment to the U.S. and the Sinai to Israel. Then we could store the equipment in Sinai and use it against anybody trying to take Israel's land. These Obama people are a total and complete disaster. Vote them out.

You're talking the wrong thing to the wrong people. Egypt is falling backwards into the suicide death cult of Islamism. They don't want treaties with anyone. They want anarchy and war and violence and mayhem.

Empress Trudy, you're right about that. However, their military has been trained up (including their fighter pilots) and equipped with top notch stuff by the U.S. military, as has Turkey's. If they've decided to line up with the Muslim Bros instead of working reforms with Mubarak, any normal U.S. administration would freeze deliveries and would send out the code to disable the F-16s, etc. Then demand the equipment be parked in the Sinai and then repo the Sinai back to Israel as a buffer zone and staging area. But the Obami are on the side of the Muslim Bros so NOTHING like this will happen. And by the way, when is GWBush going to speak up? Vote out the Obama Posse, federal, state, and local!!!
