Surprise: Most Americans favor military action against Iran

If I'm a Republican candidate for President, I would be hammering away at the idea of taking military action to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. It's no secret that the Obumbler would rather that Israel be destroyed - God forbid - than the US take military action to stop Iran. But most of the American people feel otherwise. Contrary to what the Paulbots would have you believe, most Americans favor military action to destroy Iran's nuclear capability.
In the Jan. 2-8 IBD/TIPP poll, 52% favor U.S. military action to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons if diplomacy and sanctions fail vs. 39% opposed.

With the U.S. strategy against Iran's nuclear program sure to be a major issue in this year's presidential race, 70% of Republicans favor armed action vs. 20% opposed. Independents were in favor, 48%-41%. Democrats were opposed, 50%-42%.

Otherwise, support was broad-based. Majorities of married women, Hispanics and people ages 18 to 44 back military force to stop Iran from getting nukes, along with large pluralities of women overall, blacks and those ages 45 and above.

By 59% to 28%, respondents approved of Israel attacking Iran to prevent it from building nuclear weapons, a development that would constitute an existential threat to the Jewish state. Democrats were 46% to 40% in favor.
And the American people won't let Obama blame Bush for this one.
The public also believes, by 47%-25%, that Iran has become a bolder and bigger threat than ever under Obama. Some 34% "strongly agree." Remarkably, Democrats were split: 34% say Iran is a worse danger than ever under this Democratic president, while 33% disagree.
You can't fool all of the people all of the time, can you?

The American people do not support a war on Iran.

It's the neoconservative polls, who pick selective people to poll then pretend they represent the majority.

They do not.

It's a porker. A fabulous lie so breathtaking in it's audacity, it's, it's..well i can't say

Let's suppose taking Iran out of the nuclear weapons business means a 1 week-long intensive naval and air campaign. As part and parcel of that, most of Iran's air defenses, much of their Air Force and Navy would likewise be destroyed. I don't think the majority of Americans would have a problem with that.

I think the Saudi and Gulf States governments would be thrilled that we'd finally done what had to be done.

The unhappy parties would include Russia, China, Hamas and Hezbollah, our Turkish "allies", the Assad regime, Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood and, of course, most of the American left and Democratic Party.
