We cease, they fire? UPDATE: Car swarm watch
Sorry for a much longer than anticipated break. I went to synagogue for prayers and to study with my son. I was supposed to come back briefly a couple of hours ago, but that didn't happen. And then I took the same son (son #3, child #6, age 12) to see a video on how to slaughter (ritually) and dissect a lamb. Those of you who study Talmud understand why.In the meantime, Hamas has asked for a 'cease fire.' Of course, that means we cease and they fire. And they have continued to fire over the last couple of hours. In the meantime, the IDF is waiting for orders and is prepared for any scenario. This is from the first link.
"Hamas is keen on maintaining the period of calm that has prevailed in the Gaza Strip in the past few months," a Hamas official said. He stressed that Hamas did not participate in the recent wave of rocket and missile attacks on Israel.Someone needs to remind Abu Mujahed who started this. Of course, he wouldn't listen anyway.
The official said that Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh on Saturday night phoned the head of Egypt's General Intelligence Force and urged him to intervene to secure a ceasefire with Israel.
Following intensive talks with representatives of various Palestinian groups, including Islamic Jihad, the Egyptian authorities informed Hamas leaders that a ceasefire agreement would go into effect later in the day.
However, the Popular Resistance Committees, which lost several of its leaders in an Israeli air strike last Friday, said it would not abide by any ceasefire.
Abu Mujahed, a spokesman for the group, said that the PRC would continue to defend Palestinians against "Zionist aggression, arrogance and crimes."
He added: "Our position is clear - we have nothing to do with a ceasefire with the enemy. The enemy must bear the consequences of its crimes and we won't stop the resistance."
And from the second link....
Despite reports that Hamas was seeking an immediate ceasefire with Israel, rocket and mortar attacks on southern Israel from Gaza resumed in Sunday evening after an afternoon lull.Someone please tell me that we're going to do some serious damage to the terrorists in Gaza really soon....
One rocket exploded in the Sderot area. No injuries were reported.
Less than an hour earlier, two rockets were fired at Ashkelon on Sunday night. One was intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-rocket shield, and another fell south of the city in open area, failing to cause injuries or damages.
Minutes earlier, the Color Red rocket alert had been activated in the Sha'ar Henegev Regional Council, sending residents fleeing for cover. A rocket fell near a kibbutz in the area. No injuries were reported.
UPDATE 11:39 PM
Israel Radio reports that in the last few minutes, the IAF attacked a car in Gaza. Not clear yet who was in it.
UPDATE MONDAY 12:01 AM
The car was in Beit Lahiya in Northern Gaza, next to the 'American University.' Still no word who was in it.
The political-security cabinet (the eight senior ministers) is meeting on Sunday night to determine how to act.
Labels: Gaza, Hamas, Hamas rockets, Islamic Jihad, Palestinian terrorism, Popular Resistance Committee
3 Comments:
Israel's policy seems to be to wait for Hamas to run out of rockets.
No telling how long that will take to happen.
What could go wrong indeed
