Erdogan: Apology not enough

On Wednesday, I reported that Israel had turned down a request to apologize to Turkey for the Mavi Marmara incident.

Prime Minister Erdogan has confirmed again that an apology - even a full apology and not a limited one like the US and Israel have been discussing - is not enough (Hat Tip: Joshua I).
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdoğan said Wednesday it was impossible for Turkish-Israeli relations to return to normal unless Israel apologizes to Turkey for the killing of nine Turks aboard the Mavi Marmara, a Gaza-bound aid ship, and lifts the embargo on Gaza. “Turkey will not take a step back. From now on we will act with the families who lost their relatives in the flotilla attack,” said Erdoğan.
So if Turkey won't compromise, why should we? And for that matter, even if they would, why should we? Why should we agree to suppress the Palmer report?

Israel should not admit guilt for something it hasn't done. Reconciliation is a two way street and Turkey's goal is not to close the book on the events of May 31 last year but to subject Israel to national humiliation. Israel cannot cross that line.
