America's new ambassador to Israel

The Obama administration formally announced on Wednesday that it is nominating Dan Shapiro to be its ambassador to Israel.

Everyone who was interviewed about Shapiro had nothing but praises for him. See the previous link and also here. Shapiro is fluent in Hebrew and regularly attends a conservative temple.

Doesn't this sound like Martin Indyk or Dan Kurtzer or is it just me drudging up images of disappointments past? And how come none of those glowing reports quote Republicans like - for example - the chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee?

I'd be thrilled if Shapiro turns out to be an ambassador who 'understands' us, but we've been down this road too many times before.

What could go wrong?

These court Jews are selected for the court-Jewishness.
