An idea for a buycott?
You will recall that our friends from Toronto have taught us that the best way to counter a boycott is with a
buycott. Perhaps that lesson could be applied to a
hideous new application developed by three Leftist Israeli bloggers in a bid to enable people to avoid products from the 'settlements.'
The bloggers behind the new application are Noam Rotem, Itamar Shaltiel, and Boris Boltianski, who run the "Activism is an Open-Source Code," blog, recently released the settlement-boycotting app, naming it "Buy no Evil."
In a message posted on the blog ahead of the app's release, Shaltiel wrote that Buy no Evil was "developed as part of the Activismos.com open-source project, and allows the insertion of a detailed product list, thus allowing consumers to deicide whether or not they wished to support this or that product."
"It can be used to, for example, avoid buying products tested on animals, products originating from settlements in the occupied territories, or to support green products," the message said.
However, citing the upcoming expiration of Israel's settlement freeze, Shaltiel said the "first list fed into the app is that of products made in settlements, based on the information gathered by the Gush Shalom organization."
"Buying a product means supporting the producer, and while we do not advocate a consumer ban, we do believe that people should be aware of which manufacturers they support," the message added, saying that the Android app could be downloaded free at the Android market.
The announcement of the new Android app came after the leftist non-profit Peace Now introduced a new iPhone app earlier this week, meant to aid users track the growth of settlements in the West Bank.
Self-hating Jews.

Ordinary people (randomly or purposely) unfamiliar with the layout of the "settlements" can be undermined by one of the 3d elevation type interactive graphics that would allow internet browsing of title search, related photos, lines of sight, rocket ranges onto the airport and Tel Aviv, vacant land surrounding, sites co-opted by the Palestinians without ownership (eg, the farmer family who complains loudly about having to go through a gate in the separation (fence) barrier to get to their field - very effective PR - and it turns out (surprise!) that they don't actually own the land - it was vacant and they just started farming it some decades ago) etc. relevant to the neighborhoods. These lefty Israelis can get away with this internationally because the real estate information has not been compiled (in real estate vocab, not religious vocab) and posted.
Actually, our leftist friends have done us an unintended favor. They've shown us how to us to use our purchasing power to support and to strengthen the revanants.
I hope they keep their good work! They're helping to put Yesha on the map.
