Cheney visits Saudi Arabia

Former Vice President Dick Cheney turned up in Riyadh with King Abdullah on Monday.
In a move that is sure to set conspiracy theorists aflutter, former Vice President Dick Cheney popped up yesterday in Saudi Arabia, where he met with King Abdullah. Accompanying him was former State Department diplomat and its top translator, Gamal Helal, who recently left the government to form a consulting firm, Helal Associates.

While the Arabic press has caught on to this story, I haven't seen it reported in the U.S. media as of yet. But still, it raises a few eyebrows: Cheney, a private citizen who has reportedly been working on his memoirs, doesn't have any obvious reasons to sit down with the Saudi monarch. The details behind the meeting could go a long way toward unraveling what the former vice president plans to do with his retirement. Here's hoping that the inevitable theorizing about his plans doesn't generate more heat than light.
Here's my guess: I don't think Cheney initiated this meeting. I think Abdullah did. I think Abdullah is turning to Cheney - whom he trusts - either to find out how to get President Obama to act against Iran, or to act as a go-between with the Israelis (who also trust Cheney) who will have to act against Iran if the US does not.

Hmmm.

I think Cheney like Bush has close ties with the Saudi's. They, the Saudi's give lots of monies to presidential libraries and furthermore, they share many of the same business interests. (did not mean anything ominous about sharing same interests)

Having nothing to do with Cheney, if the House of Saud were really worried about Iran they wield so much power they too could do something about it. However the House of Saud speaks from both sides of their mouths while dealing on both sides of the table so who knows what they (with the exclusion of Cheney) is up to.

In the end, post 9-11 the Saudi's emerged squeaky clean. That is the side of political doubledealing I dislike immensely. Bow to em, hold hands with em, in the end the House of Saud always remains on top. Amazing, hah?

Perhaps Dick being so trusted by Israel, took a message to Abdullah admonishing Saudi Arabia for some of the most virulent antisemitism on the planet. While they were having their little 'tête à tête' Cheney gave his two cents on the absolute audacity of the Saudi peace plan. LOL!!

(ooops, I was just dreaming, sorry.)

Honestly, if push came to shove who would Cheney agree with not to mention broach a sticky subject...? And in all fairness to Dick Cheney, he is not the only one who skirts certain issues in the presence of the almighty House of Saud.

The Saudi's want to hang on to their "kingdom" and all the oil money that so far has kept the Nations at their feet and up to their necks in evil. They also have a terrible fear of what their personal situation will look like if the Shia ever get their hands on them, literally....
