House appoints conferees on Iran sanctions bill

Despite President Obama's opposition, the House has appointed conferees for the bill known as the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act. The bill would impose sanctions on companies selling refined oil products to Iran.

Much as I favor this bill - and anything else that has the potential to stop Iran - I don't believe that even if passed, these sanctions will have any effect before it is too late. Moreover, if the bill includes the possibility of a Presidential waiver of the sanctions - let alone requires affirmative actions from Obama to implement the sanctions - as is likely the case, the odds are that the sanctions will not be implemented.

I sometimes feel like there's a vise closing around us.

What could go wrong?
