Ahmadinejad's 'New Middle East'

Many of us on the Right in this country joke about Shimon Peres' 'New Middle East,' the Messianic vision where the lambs and the wolves lie down together. It will happen, God willing, when the Messiah comes.

Back in the present, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was in Damascus on Thursday, where he set out his vision for a 'New Middle East.'
Arab nations will usher in a new Middle East "without Zionists and without colonialists," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday.

Ahmadinejad spoke Thursday during a trip to Syria. The trip follows a string of US efforts to break up Syria's 30-year alliance with Tehran.

He said that "if the Zionist regime wants to repeat its past mistakes, this will bring about its demise and annihilation."
Assad must be feeling pretty good about himself. The very week that the United States agrees to send an ambassador to Syria, he has a visit from his good friend Ahmadinejad whom the United States is trying to get him to abandon. Talk about actions having no consequences.

Alas, peace in the Middle East is unlikely in your time or mine, but the road map to starting the process is at the top of this post.
