Hope springs eternal
Given that he ran on a platform of 'hope and change,' I suppose that we shouldn't be too surprised that hope springs eternal at the White House. But hope for what? Jennifer Rubin explains.Bibi Netanyahu delivered a speech yesterday that invited the Palestinians to “immediately” get to the bargaining table. The reaction was revealing: “Palestinian and Arab leaders responded coolly to the speech, which had been seen by the White House as an opportunity for new concessions by Israel.” Yes, every day hope springs eternal in the White House that Bibi will begin shuffling concessions across the table. And that expectation has only re-enforced the Palestinians’ and Arabs’ inclination to do nothing, offer nothing, and wait for Obama to deliver concessions to them. This is what 10 months of Obama’s smart diplomacy has gotten us.I'd say that's a fair assessment.

If the White House thought Israel was going to offer territorial pullbacks, those have disappeared in the post-Goldstone Era. The Arabs themselves have not awoken to the new reality and its ironically enough one of their own making.
Hope springs eternal, indeed
