WaPo slams Obama on Israel

A flying pigs moment?

In an editorial in Thursday's editions, the Washington Post slams the Obumbler for spoiling US relations with only one country in the last six months: Israel.
Rather than pocketing Mr. Netanyahu's initial concessions -- he gave a speech on Palestinian statehood and suggested parameters for curtailing settlements accepted by previous U.S. administrations -- Mr. Obama chose to insist on an absolutist demand for a settlement "freeze." Palestinian and Arab leaders who had accepted previous compromises immediately hardened their positions; they also balked at delivering the "confidence-building" concessions to Israel that the administration seeks. Israeli public opinion, which normally leans against the settler movement, has rallied behind Mr. Netanyahu. And Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, which were active during the Bush administration's final year, have yet to resume.

U.S. and Israeli officials are working on a compromise that would allow Israel to complete some housing now under construction while freezing new starts for a defined period. Arab states would be expected to take steps in return. Such a deal will expose Mr. Obama to criticism in the Arab world -- a public relations hit that he could have avoided had he not escalated the settlements dispute in the first place. At worst, the president may find himself diminished among both Israelis and Arabs before discussions even begin on the issues on which U.S. clout is most needed. If he is to be effective in brokering a peace deal, Mr. Obama will need to show both sides that they can trust him -- and he must be tough on more than one country.
I don't believe that the Obumbler can ever be effective in 'brokering peace.' Nor do I believe that Israelis will ever trust him. We were suspicious of him from the outset, and he has done everything possible to confirm our suspicions. He is persona non grata in Israel. We don't want to see him here again.

Perhaps, if he comes again, he should be put in a hotel constructed somewhere in Judea or Samaria. Ideally, his suite would be high enough so that he could see both the Mediterranean Sea and Jordan, so that he couldn't claim that he didn't understand Israel's security problem.

Of course, this guy is hugely biased against Israel and for the Arabs, so there's really no hope of reaching him on a rational level. Israel simply has to stick to its guns, and to maintain/increase its faith in HaShem and act accordingly. Partly that means NO COMPROMISE, NO GIVEAWAYS of The Land that is the common heritage of all Jews of every era.

Obumbler will be gone in 3 1/2 years, just as the empires of the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Spanish became dust, just as the Czars, Nazis and Soviets who oppressed us are gone - and we Jews will remain. Just 3 1/2 years of a weak-willed and failing leader of a country that is historically very friendly to Israel and the Jews - this one is comparatively EASY. Bibi - just tell Obama "NO!" on every significant compromise, and don't worry about the effects. He'll be an insignificant footnote to history in a few years. Be strong!

Obumbler may well get his "settlement freeze". I don't believe though, he will get anything more from Israel. He's so badly damaged in Israeli eyes that he will find it impossible to get Israel's government to give anything more to him. In the end, was instigating a confrontation with Israel over a non-issue really worth it? Obumbler's legacy will be to ensure peace doesn't happen in the Middle East for a long time.

Hopenchange, any one?

When Obama lived in Indonesia as a child he was registered as a Muslim at his school. He went to the mosque for his lessons in religion, he learned to appreciate the call to prayer: "the most beautiful sound in the world". One Islam, one koran. Most likely the Jew hate in Indonesia is not as fervent as it is in the Middle East, but still, he was brought up on it for a few years at least. Well, it shows...
