Netanyahu to Obumbler: 'The hell you'll tell us not to build in Jerusalem'

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu rejected a demand by the Obama administration - delivered by summoning Ambassador Michael Oren over the weekend - that Israel cease construction of a Jewish housing project on the site of the vacant Shepherd Hotel. The hotel is located in the Sheikh Jarah neighborhood just across the street (literally) from the old border with Jordan. The land was purchased privately by American investor Irving Moskowitz. It used to belong to none other than Haj Amin al-Husseini.
Jerusalem is the "unified capital of Israel and the capital of the Jewish people, and sovereignty over it is indisputable," Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Sunday, responding to an American demand to put an end to a housing project to be built in east Jerusalem.

"Hundreds of apartments in the west of the city were purchased by Arabs and we didn't get involved. There is no prohibition against Arab residents buying apartments in the west of the city and there is no prohibition barring the city's Jewish residents from buying or building in the east of the city," Netanyahu added at the weekly cabinet meeting. "That is the policy of an open city that is not divided.

"We cannot accept the notion that Jews will not have the right to buy apartments specifically in Jerusalem. I can only imagine what would happen if they were forbidden from purchasing apartments in New York or London; there would be an international outcry. This has always been Israel's policy and this is the policy of the current government," the prime minister added.
The Obumbler decided to summon Ambassador Oren after 'moderate' 'Palestinian' President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen complained that Jewish construction at the site was changing the city's demographics. If Abu Bluff wants to prevent his 'people' from 'losing' more land, he ought to come to the table and negotiate.

Most Israelis support Netanyahu's position. As in every other area, the Obumbler's Middle East policy has utterly failed.

There are a number of excellent reader comments for this story on JPost which in the aggregate, demonstrate Israeli and Jewish conviction on this issue and the absurd hypocrisy and vile antisemitism of the Obama administration's tack.

When Abbas snaps his fingers, Obama leaps but other than Meretz and J Street, he will find little support for his efforts to de-Judaize Jerusalem.

Obama is finding no support for his pressure upon Israel even from Netanyahu's predecessor as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. That should tell him to back off. Israelis are saying "NO" to the US and he has no idea how to address their defiance of him.

Heh

Let me get this straght: the Americans intervened because Abbas complained east Jerusalem could get a Jewish majority. So according to Obumbler's edict, only Jews should be forbidden from living in east Jerusalem because they're Jews. Imagine if blacks where told they could not live in DC because they are black.

The hypocrisy is nauseating and the anti-Jewish stench from State is revolting.

No wonder Israel flatly turned the arrogant demarche down! And he can take his anti-Israel prejudice and shove it where the sun don't shine!
