Obama morphing into Chavez?

This is really an American topic rather than an Israeli one, but given how bad Barack Obama is turning out, I'm going to post it anyway.

A resolution has been introduced in the US Congress to repeal the 22nd amendment to the US constitution (Hat Tip: Herr Oyal).
H.J.RES.5
Title: Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President.
Sponsor: Rep Serrano, Jose E. [NY-16] (introduced 1/6/2009) Cosponsors (None)
Latest Major Action: 2/9/2009 Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties.
President for Life?

Serrano proposed this amendment several times in the past and it has never been accepted (so far).

Carl - it takes a two-thirds vote of both Houses Of Congress and ratification by three-fourths or 38 of the 50 states before a constitutional amendment can be adopted as part of the Constitution.

You will note Jose Serrano has no co-sponsors for his measure. Thousands of constitutional amendments have been proposed since 1787 and few of them since that time - 27 have been added to the Constitution. The Constitution was made to be very hard to change.

America is very different from Venezuela. The very nature of the federal system makes its very difficult to place all the powers in the hands of one man - let alone allowing him to be President For Life.
