IDF approaching Gaza City from 3 directions (10:00 liveblog)

Israel Radio reports that the IDF is approaching Gaza City from three different directions and is currently in Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip among other places. The reports are based on Arab correspondents.

There are diplomatic movements for a truce but none has been satisfactory for Israel.

The vote on a ground operation in the cabinet was 10-0-2. The two abstentions were Chaim Ramon and Eli Yishai (the leader of Shas).

Hassan Nasrallah is calling on the 'Palestinians' to inflict as many losses on Israel as they can.

UPDATE 10:13 PM

The IDF dropped leaflets over Gaza today:
To the residents of the area,

Due to the anti-Israel activities carried out by terrorists in your area of residence, the Israeli Defense Army has been forced to respond and operate in this area. For your own safety, we request that you leave the area immediately.
The 'Palestinians' are reporting many wounded. They are not citing whether those killed are 'civilians' or terrorists.

By the way, much of the electricity in the Gaza Strip went out tonight.

UPDATE 10:20 PM

Israel Radio is reporting that since Israel cut off the Philadelphi corridor, the 'Palestinians' have no way to get ammunition beyond what they currently have available to them.

Nasrallah is apparently satisfied with making pronouncements for now. Israel is apparently (according to Nasrallah) trying to create facts on the ground before the UN intervenes just like they did in Lebanon in 2006.

He says that the only way the 'Palestinians' will change things is to cause as many IDF casualties as possible. But no word on whether Hezbullah will join the fray.

UPDATE 10:47 PM

Israel Radio reports that the IDF has gained control over the rocket launch sites in northern Gaza and that 'tens' of 'Palestinians' have been wounded.

They played a tape of Hamas spokesman Mussa Abu Marzouk trying to encourage the 'Palestinians' from his safe house in Damascus.

Hezbollah has been warned by Israel not to open a second front. Israel did not want this war. It was forced upon it. Hamas has to bear the full consequences of its choice to pursue the destruction of Israel rather than peace. That is not a situation the people of Israel will not accept or choose to live with. The die has been cast.
