IDF ground troops are in Gaza

IDF ground troops entered Gaza this evening. More to follow.

UPDATE 9:15 PM

Charles Johnson gets it right.
This day was inevitable, ever since Israel’s withdrawal. Now the IDF are going to have to retake territory that’s been heavily armed and booby-trapped, in a densely packed urban environment.
Yes, it was inevitable. Too bad so many people - even on our side - wouldn't listen three and a half years ago.

UPDATE 9:19 PM

The IDF's goals are
destroying Hamas infrastructure and preventing rocket fire by taking control of launching pads in northern Gaza.
The cabinet has also approved the callup of thousands of reserve troops.

UPDATE 9:25 PM

For those who are wondering, the foreign journalists are on the roof of Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and on the roof of one other building.

Israel has said that the blood of any 'human shields' will be on the terrorists who are hiding behind them. Hmm.

UPDATE 9:38 PM

Gateway Pundit has a Fox news report with video of the IDF going in.

UPDATE 9:41 PM

Israel Radio report that the action actually started around 7:00 PM tonight.

Here's an AP video:

Defense Minister Ehud Barak is now giving a press conference. More in a little bit. Please check back soon.

UPDATE 9:44 PM

Barak says decision to send ground troops in was taken carefully. Goal is to change the reality under which southern Israel is living.

He says that we hope that the north will remain quiet but we are prepared for anything. This is key because, as I noted earlier, Hezbullah has threatened to shoot rockets at Israel if Israel enters the Gaza Strip.

What is being done now was done with pursuant to the cabinet decision and with the consent of the Prime Minister.

We bit our lips for a long time, and now what has to be done has to be done. We hope to remove threats for the future. We are in a complicated process, but we know that we are right.

UPDATE 9:48 PM

Barak also said that this will not be a short war. We have already hit more than 600 Hamas targets and have killed more than 400 of them. He's now giving a speech in English - no questions are being taken and Israel Radio is not playing the English.

UPDATE 9:51 PM

Israel Radio says no rocket fire into Israel in the last 2 hours. JPost reports that the 'Palestinians' shot one rocket that landed next to the 'security fence.'

Hamas' al-Aqsa TV is trying to raise morale for the 'Palestinians.' They are broadcasting from a hiding place. Al-Jazzeera apparently went to broadcast Ehud Barak at the same time, but that ticked off someone in Qatar and they switched back to Fawzi Barhoum (Saraa's uncle) and the other creepy Hamas spokesman.

Heh.

This had to happen...

THe palios HAD to be given a chance to either succeed or fail with statehood...

they have now shown what will happen if given an area to rule...

they will become humanity's worst example of death cult barbarians...

May the IDF go and KILL each and every ARMED person in the strip...

may this be a PAVLOVIAN learning opportunity for the islamic world that ALLAH actually is not happy with them..

Allah BLESSES the JEWS...

Hamas and Hezbollah shot over 15,000 rockets and barely killed 50 people (that's 50 to many of course)

Israel NOT trying to harm civilians have killed hundreds, if not thousands (leb 2006 included) of these f*ckers...

It's time to reteach a lesson to the islamofacists...

F*ck with the Jews? DIE....

Am i a tad bit Lenny Bruce?

Yep...

as I tell Moslems that bitch to me about Israel..

I dont care if your upset, I do not care to change your heart or mind...

I dont care if you hate me, boycott me or think of me of as a dog...

I dont care....

I just care about ONE thing...

THAT YOU FEAR ME.....

It is late in coming but it had to be done sooner than later. We all wish the IDF godspeed in its task to defend the State Of Israel, the lives of its citizens and to bring peace and quiet to the South Of Israel.
