Breaking: 'Unidentified explosions' in northern Galilee

There have been some 'unidentified explosions' in the northern Galilee in the last half hour and the IDF is checking whether more Katyusha rockets have been shot at us.

More details when I have them.

Israel Radio is now confirming that two Katyusha rockets were shot at Kiryat Shmona this morning. Residents have been asked to stay near bomb shelters. No one was hurt and no damage to property.

JPost is now reporting "at least three" Katyushas landed around Kiryat Shmona and that the IDF returned artillery fire.

Exit question: If the IDF hit something, does that make the response 'disproportionate'?

Someone wants a two front war. The danger from the North whatever Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni might claim was not vitiated by UN Resolution 1701. Just the opposite.

It's late, I know I can put subjects and verbs together better than the last attempt.

That said, this is one of those moments in history where many things could change dramatically, or they could stay the same. This sounds simplistic, but for things to drastically change, Hezbollah will have to go over the UN to start a second front--thus exposing once and for all that the UN is a useless institution. If Hezbollah starts this, then look for a flurry of press asking whether the UN has outlived its usefulness, as if we don't already know the answer.

If Hezbollah chooses to fight, look for Israel to give diplomats time to piece something together. And if diplomacy fails, look for some very heavy, if not frightening weapons to come flying out of Israel. The diplomats know the stakes are high here, they could lose their most precious facade, I mean institution.

If the UN closes, look for the crimes of Bernie Madoff to look like shoplifting. Because the world's biggest crooks will be let loose on the world.

I guess the UN is like Gitmo for guys who have been to good colleges.
