'They shoot journalists, don't they?'

Last night, around 12:30 AM here in Israel, a wire service report out of Gaza indicated that an Israeli tank had fired a missile at a car full of al-Jazeera reporters, causing an indeterminate number of injuries. I read about this story on Little Green Footballs, and there was some discussion over whether Israel could or should be held responsible.

Overnight, the story seemed to disappear.

But the inimitable Charles Johnson kept after it, and just came out with the following:

In a story about the Gaza operations, Associated Press Palestinian propagandist Ibrahim Barzak tosses off an insignificant tidbit of trivia:

In nearby Beit Lahiya, Palestinians fired at a car carrying a crew from the Arabic satellite TV channel Al-Jazeera, wounding two people, said Wael Dahdouh, one of the reporters in the car. The gunmen apparently thought the reporters were Israeli undercover agents, he said.

And imagine if the 'gunmen' had been Israelis....
