Ramon: Israel has absolutely confirmed that Shalit is still alive
Justice Minister Haim Ramon announced today that Israel had confirmed "absolutely" that kidnapped IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit is still alive and being held captive by Hamas.Meanwhile, a 'security official' said today that Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal wants to hide Shalit.
"Mashaal views Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah as his role model and wants to treat Shalit just as Hizbullah treated Ron Arad."
Also today, London-based Arabic daily A-Sharq Alawsat reported that Shalit's captors have rejected mediation attempts by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to secure the soldier's release.
Update: 10:02 PM
The Jerusalem Post is now reporting that officials in the defense and security establishments have yet to respond to a report released this evening that the kidnappers of IDF Corporal Gilad Shalit would consider relaxing their demands.
The details of the report have not been disclosed.
