'New, improved' Kassams to reach Ashdod soon

A senior officer in the security establishment said on Sunday that Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, and Ofakim will all soon be within range of Kassams fired by 'Palestinian' terrorists from the Gaza Strip.

Accoding to military intelligence, the 'Palestinians' are seeking to buy and smuggle and maufacture Russian-made Grad missiles, whose firing range of 22 km exceeds that of the homemade Kassam by 10 km (you will recall that I told you on Friday that the Kassam that landed on the outskirts of Netivot had traveled 12 kilometers.

The officer said terror groups are seeking both to smuggle Grad missiles from Egypt through tunnels and to produce similar rockets in the Gaza Strip.

YNet quotes the senior officer as saying that the timing of the rocket's explosion can cause more damage than the amount of explosives it carries: A rocket that explodes 2-3 meters before hitting its target is deadlier than a rocket that explodes upon landing. He described such a rocket as a "flying suicide bomber."

Police in all three towns named say that they are ready to deal with Kassams, but their mayors have not announced any precautionary measures for fear of causing panic.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Comrade Peretz continue to fiddle. Olmert told the foreign press today that he is determined to carry out his convergence consolidation realignment surrender, expulsion and suicide plan in Judea and Samaria.

Maybe we should change Olmert's name to Nero?
