Palestinian Authority employees to be paid?

The Jerusalem Post reported last night that 40,000 of the Palestinian Authority's 160,000 employees - those whose salaries are NIS 1500 (approximately $333) per month or less - are going to be paid one month's salary tomorrow.

According to the Post, the employees will be able to draw their salaries through banks in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, with the exception of the Arab Bank which he said "has legal problems" with the US. The Arab Bank is the largest bank in the 'Palestinian Authority.'

If the payment is made, the PA would pay some $13 million - a figure totaling 11 percent of one month's $120 payroll.

But YNet is reporting this morning that the 'Palestinian banks' are refusing to transfer the money. The 'Palestinian' news agency Ramtan reported following a Saturday night meeting between the Palestinian finance ministry and bank representatives, that the Palestinian banks decided not approve the payments because they feared 'American pressure.'
