2 IDF soldiers killed, one missing, Hamas leaders may be targeted

HaAretz is now reporting that two IDF soldiers were killed in this morning's attack on an IDF post near Kerem Shalom and that a third IDF soldier was kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists. It is due to the third soldier that the IDF has entered the Gaza Strip.

Earlier this morning, the JPost backed off a report of soldiers having been killed at the apparent request of the IDF, because the families had not yet been notified.

HaAretz is also reporting that Ehud Olmert is blaming the Palestinian Authority for the attack, and that senior leaders of Hamas may now be targeted for assassination. YNet adds that Olmert specifically blamed both 'moderate Palestinian President' Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen and Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

The Jerusalem Post reports that Hamas spokesman in the Gaza Strip Sami Abu Zuhri said that the attack was Hamas' response to reports circulated by Fatah that Hamas had agreed to a ceasefire. Abu Zuhri insisted that Hamas would continue its armed struggle against occupation, Israel Radio reported.
