Lapid admits he rejected all coalitions with Haredim

Prime Minister Netanyahu got a 2-week extension to put together a coalition on Saturday night. One reason he needed the extension is that Yair Lapid has blocked Netanyahu's efforts to put together a coalition involving the two Haredi parties (who have 18 seats between them) and Jewish Home (which has 12 seats).
"The reason there is no coalition so far is because there are boycotts of an entire public in the State of Israel and that does not match my views," Netanyahu stated, sitting across from Peres on the plush chairs in the President's Residence's press room.
Lapid publicly and explicitly stated for the first time Saturday night that he would not sit in the same coalition as ultra-orthodox parties Shas and UTJ, while Bayit Yehudi stuck to its commitment to enter a government only if Yesh Atid joins, as well.
"When products made by settlers in Judea and Samaria are boycotted, we justly protest, and the people who need to understand this more than anyone is the settlers who are subjected to daily boycotts," Netanyahu said. "In my view, throughout our history, we underwent tragedies as a result of hatred and fighting between brothers, and when we look around us and see the tremendous challenges, we need to unite forces and not split up."
The prime minister said he is doing all he can to unite the nation, working for four weeks to build the broadest coalition possible with an emphasis on economic issues and equality in the burden of national service, issues on which the haredi public is willing to compromise.
"I want to use the coming days to try to form a wide government, and I hope party leaders will show responsibility. Responsibility and leadership, in my eyes, is to unite the nation and not divide it, and for that I need additional time," Netanyahu concluded.
Read the whole thing. It doesn't sound like there's going to be a coalition in two weeks either.

Well... It's his right not to want to sit with those whom he sees as justifying not working, not paying taxes and not serving in the army... After all that's what he ran for... Then... do we really want to promote Obama's views of a life of entitlements? Why would Yeshiva and Kollel Students - who, against Torah Law, get PAID only to learn Torah - not pay local taxes (to give just ONE of myriads of examples), while college and university students who did their army service do?
I am wondering if the survival of the very sectoral-ist haredi parties is dependent on their sitting in ANY government with rather important portfolios (in Italian it means WALLET, which is more appropriate), if sitting in the government is their ONLY guiding principle, in Hebrew it is known as כסאולוגיה, since until now they have been in practically all governments since 1948, right or left, in spite of their small representation in the Knesset.

Now that one of the haredi parties has a corrupted jailbird, Der'i, as leader, another (Benizri) as opinion maker, and the other herdi parties seem interested only in Ministries and portfolios to take care of their own and to make sure that the will of the majority of Israel is NOT followed... Lapid's position is more and more understandable and accepted by a very large majority of Israelis, according to opinion polls...

In truth, I feel like throwing-up when I see a hypocrite like Gafni speaking of defending the land of Israel, when in 1995 he was the vote missing to pass the law protecting the integrity of Jerusalem (חק שיריון ירושלים) because he had something more important to do: to go to a Bar Mitswa party at a Dead Sea Hotel, and considering that he and his party made possible the DEPORTATION OF THE JEWS FROM THE GAZA STRIP.

Amen @HaDar. The Hareidim are born with pink hands and die with lilly white hands.
