French foreign ministry slams Netanyahu over Jerusalem

The French foreign ministry slammed Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Friday for vowing that the City of Jerusalem would never be divided.
"The declaration made by the Israeli prime minister yesterday in Jerusalem prejudices the final status agreement," Foreign Ministry spokesman Frederic Desagneaux told reporters in Paris.

...

Desagneaux said the internationally sponsored "Middle East Road Map" to peace called on both parties to negotiate an agreement on Jerusalem.

...

"In broad terms, France condemns the ongoing settlement, including in East Jerusalem. We reiterate the need for a freeze on colonisation activities, including those linked to natural population growth," he added.
I wonder if Messr. Desagneaux would similarly condemn a 'Palestinian' vow never to give up the 'right of return' as something that 'prejudices a final status agreement.' Somehow I doubt it.

Likud MK Ofir Akunis asked whether the French would agree to divide Paris. That's a nice retort but I'm afraid they've already given the entire city to their Muslim population.

Heh.

The world doesn't recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital. So what does it matter to the French what Israeli politicians avow about Jerusalem?

Frankly, France is the kind of country whose ties with Israel bewilder me. In 1967, right after the war - Levi Eshkol should have called up Paris and informed De Gaulle that he was persona non grata from then on.

France gives Israel absolutely nothing. Helps Israel in absolutely no way. Only causes harm, and has basically fostered antisemitism for centuries.

Since ties are not about to be cut - Netanyahu needs to go to the Paris Jewish community and pull another Sharon - call for mass French aliyah IN PARIS.

I suppose they would recommend that Israel declare Jerusalem an open city,
Its a very French thing to do

According to Arutz Sheva, after France slammed Israel's PM, he's going to Paris anyway for talks with French President Nicholas Sarkozy.

Jews appear to have no self respect if they have to run after those who loathe them for an audience. I would have turned down the invitation to send the French a message. Our national pride is not for sale to the likes of you!
