Survey: Most Americans believe Israel justified in pre-emptive attack on Iran

A survey of 600 likely American voters shows that vast majorities believe that a nuclear Iran would be a serious threat to the United States and to Israel. This includes a large majority of those who say that they voted for Barack Hussein Obama for President in 2008. A large majority also believes that a nuclear Iran will attack Israel, and a majority believes that Israel would be justified in launching a pre-emptive attack [pdf link] against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Most Americans are also smarter than their President and their foreign policy establishment. They understand that a ‘two-state solution’ will not bring peace to the Middle East.

Large majorities of Americans also approve of cutting off fuel and food imports from Iran, allowing and assisting Israel in attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, the United States attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, and assisting Iranian dissidents who seek to overthrow the Islamist regime in Iran. That support cuts across the board – based on the categories shown above – except a small plurality of Obama supporters opposes an American attack on Iran and only a small plurality of Obama supporters favors allowing and assisting Israel in attacking Iran.

The one sign of cognitive dissonance in the poll is just 3% of Americans see Iran as a threat to America. We're back to the pre-9/11 days. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen.

People are living in denial about Iran.
