Fox interviews Steve Emerson on Israel's possible takeout of Iran's nukes

On Friday, after it was disclosed that Israel conducted a major military exercise as an apparent dry run for an attack on Iran, Fox News interviewed terrorism expert Steve Emerson and asked him whether he thought Israel would act and what the US would do if Israel did act. The responses are fascinating.

Let's go to the videotape.

It is becoming increasingly clear that Israel is going to have to act because no one else is going to act. But the timing may depend on the result of the US Presidential election. If Obama wins (God forbid), there is little choice but to act during the period between the US election and Obama coming into office. The support just won't be there if Obama is in power. If McCain wins, Israel will be willing to wait longer - until it becomes apparent that Iran is going online with nuclear weapons. But if Iran is about to go online with nuclear weapons, expect Israel to attack immediately, regardless of who is in power here or in the United States. This has nothing to do with Olmert - this is probably the only area in which he can act right now in which everyone here will back him.

I don't agree about Olmert - he hasn't acted to defend Israel from Hamas or from Hezbollah. Why would he defend the country from Iran, where the stakes are far higher? All the more reason the present government goes soon.

NormanF,

The IDF will force him to act if it comes down to it.
