Palestinian university president comes out against boycott of Israeli academics

Occasionally, there is honesty, even in the Arab world.

Al-AP is reporting this evening that Sari Nusseibeh, the Palestinian president of Al-Quds University, has come out against a boycott of Israeli universities that keeps coming up in England. "If we are to look at Israeli society, it is within the academic community that we've had the most progressive pro-peace views and views that have come out in favor of seeing us as equals," Sari Nusseibeh told The Associated Press. "If you want to punish any sector, this is the last one to approach."

Nusseibeh admits that his view is a minority among the 'Palestinians.'

Britain's main academic association recently called on its members to consider boycotting Israeli professors. The boycott was retracted last week when two British academic unions merged: the NATFHE merged with the AUT.

And that's why Sari Nusseibeh has no influence on Palestinian affairs. But he's the Great Hope of the Israeli Left, God bless him.
